Very important if you want it to last and if that person means something to you.

It depends on what BOTH of you want. If both of you are CLEAR that you don't care if you never see each other after having sex, then no need to know the person.

But IF you (a) want to see the person for a while (b) want a relationship in all senses, not just sexual (c) tend to develop feelings based on physical intimacy,

THEN, isn't it just logical that you'd want to know the person before getting intimate?

And if you just don't KNOW whether (a), (b) or (c) are true for you, that's another reason to wait, and in the best of all worlds, talk to the other person about it. In short - get to know them.

Absolutely. If you find that you and the other don't mesh, why take it to the physical?

And on another note, why even get physical until you are married? After all, you are giving away a very special part of yourself to someone. Wouldn't that be better to wait until you have a forever commitment?

Yes. In a perfect world, we'd all be married before the physical relationship happens.
