Fingers are okay, but sometimes frowned upon, so watch your audience/other diners. Forks are fine if you're in a buffet, and with chopsticks, all you really need to do is practice. Get some Chinese take-out, some chopsticks, and try at home before entering the sushi bar. Or try holding (2) two pencils, and grasping things with them like Cheetos or some small candies. Chopsticks in the traditional sense are not always as elegant as they seem, so don't be too embarrassed.
God Bless You.

Well, first try to use the chopsticks, unless you're eating takeout at home(then you can use your fingers if you want). If you can't the first two or three tries, you can use your knife and fork. It'd probably be an insult to the owner if you didn't at least try the chopsticks. Personally, I don't have trouble with the chopsticks. When I went to the restaurant the paper the chopsticks came in had instructions on it. Well, keep trying and you WILL succeed.

Get some chopsticks and practice at home. They really aren't that difficult once you get the hang of it. Other than that, I'd go with fingers over knife and fork for sushi.

Chopsticks are not tricky if you use them correctly. Here's how.
Place one chopstick in the crook at the base of your thumb, resting on the joint of the middle finger. This chopstick REMAINS STATIONARY when eating. Positioned like that it's firmly anchored and easily controlled.
The other chopstick is held with the tip of the thumb and the last two segments of your index finger, with the finger parallel to the shaft. This is the moving chopstick, which is used to actually grip the food. It's possible to manipulate this chopstick with great dexterity.
Practice with a couple of pencils, holding them as I describe here, and practice touching the tips (where the lead is) together. You'll have it nailed in no time. The important thing is one chopstick does not move.

Chopsticks then fingers. Chopsticks prefered.
Good sushi cannot be held on a fork as the rice would just crumble around it.

Better to be politely and neatly eating your sushi with your fingers than mistakenly mishandling the chopsticks and have an airborne sushi roll and soy sauce sprinkling overhead. Haven't mastered the art of chopstick dining yet? Would be nice to, but don't worry, in the meatime, I'de suggest sticking to the finger-food method.

You can use chopsticks. All you need to do is put one of the sticks on your hand as if writing with a pen. Then put the other stick on top of it. Hold the first one in same position at all times, do not move it at all. Then use the second (upper) one to pick up the food, using the second one just to support the food. Try it. I have trained alot of people to use them as i work with Chinese food all the time.

Use your fingers if you must. However, many japanese restaurants provide "kids chopsticks" that have an elastic type thing at the top, which I'm sure you could handle. They're quite easy.

I use my fingers at home when I get take out, but in the restaurant I fumble
around with the chop sticks. I think it might be an insult to the owners not
to try. If they offer a fork then take them up on it.

Or in case you consume pizza, you ought to use your palms, as long as you wash your palms.
