I am a 16yo, 5'6 ectomorph and I would like to start bodybuilding as soon as possible, the problem is I am not happy with my height and my doctor says I dont have much growing left to do. I Dont want to stunt any growth i have left by lifting really heavy weights as Ive heard this will put pressure on my spine. Is it worth lifting smaller weights until im 18 or could I start properly now.

If your doctor says you wont grow anymore, then you might be stuck. I grew all the way till 20 or so, but my little brother stopped at 15 or 16. It depends on your body, when you develop, and genetics. There is nothing wrong with lifting some weights to build some muscle. Now is definately the time for you, just dont get too overboard with the protein shakes. Do it all naturally, no need to look like a bulldog.

There are two schools of thought in bodybuilding. One says that you have to be massive and look like Arnold in the Conan movies. There is another approach that focuses more on symmetry and muscle definition. This second approach is what you should try for the time being. In Arnold's Encyclopedia of BodyBuilding he shows examples of both approaches. Also unless you are going to be doing 500 lbs. full squats or dead lifts which I doubt at this point, I really wouldn't be that concerned about spine pressure.

Eat well, sleep well, and enjoy the new you.

Do not start lifting weights until you're at least 18 as you will definitely stunt your growth. You're not happy with your height and you've probably got a few inches left to grow. Your doctor cannot possibly tell how tall you will eventually be.

You could start lifting lighter weights with more reps now. Increase the weights slowly. You can do three sets of reps and increase the weight with each set of reps. Be careful, go to a gym with properly trained trainers, they will provide you with the right information.

i think u shudnt. it is certainly true dat body building hinders growth (in relation to height)....u can resort to light weights....just dont do anything extreme. who knows....u may shoot a few inches in the last years of growing!!!
