Hi, firstly Jesus was not a Jew but a Judean(not the same thing) the name Jew came later due to translations, secondly the Romans occupied all of the Holy land at the time and Latin was the official language of Rome.

Latin was the language of the Roman Empire. because the Roman Empire went around conquering ever thing in sight, the official language of the conquered nations became Latin.
This is why the language of the catholic Church is Latin and up until the 1960s. the Mass was in Latin.
If the Greek Empire was more powerful than the Roman Empire, the language of the catholic Church and the language of the Mass prior to 1960 would have been Greek.

The Romans occupied that area of the world at the time and they spoke Latin. The local people may have understood Latin but it was not their native language.
