Tell that to the Marines. The Sailors won’t believe it. Old Saying Quoted by Scott in “Redgauntlent”, Ch. XIII "The Navy is much more than a job; much more than service to country. It is a way of life. It gets in your blood." Albert Pratt, The Honorable Assistant Secretary of the Navy 1955 The Navy has both a tradition and a future--and we look with pride and confidence in both directions." Admiral George Anderson, CNO, 1 August 1961. The battle of Iwo Jima has been won. Among the Americans who served on Iwo, uncommon valor was a common virtue." Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, 17 March 1945, CINCPAC Communique No. 300 "I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy.'" President John F. Kennedy, 1 August 1963, in Bancroft Hall at the U. S. Naval Academy.

Not Arthur and his
belted knights,
In the Poet’s Song
could be
More earnest than those
Southern men
Who followed Robert Lee

or my favorite

"Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youths will be taught by Northern school teachers; learn from Northern school books THEIR version of the war". Pat Cleburne

"Well, Govan, if we are to die, let us die like men"! Pat Cleburne

All three are still applicable number two especially and sadly. The Yankees did just that now a southerner is ashamed of his birthright and heritage. God Bless You and Our Southern People.

My favorite military quote was said on the third and final day of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 3rd 1863. First, General Robert E. Lee says to George Pickett right after Pickett's Charge "General Pickett, gather your division in defense in case of a counter-attack.". General Pickett does not reply, but merely begins crying. General Lee says "General Pickett, you must look to your division.". Finally, my favorite line, Pickett sadly replies, "General Lee... I have no division...". Its very sad seeing as in Pickett's Charge, most of General Pickett's men were all killed in the charge. Pickett was greatly hit by the emotion from this charge, thus bringing about my favorite line.

Considering all the "cut and run" peace-niks we have around today, this quote is definitely still relevant.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing that is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better [people] than himself."

-- John Stewart Mill

"There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." - Donald Rumsfeld

Believe it or not, my boss makes us sort out facts like this for the military decision making process. It helps to plan to figure out what you know and what you know that you won't know, but Good Lord, this is taking it to the extreme. Hehe.

Hope you like it as much as I did.

A commander was trying to calm his soldiers down+ say that the enemy couldn't hit them. He said: “They couldn’t hit an elephant at this distance” and the commander was immediately shot dead.
