I teach and have been practicing yoga for over 5 years. In the beginning I was also doing cardio and lifting weights. Eventually I found that yoga as all I needed. It isnt just about flexibility, it also tones and strengthens the muscles. It can be varied so it can be something that those who are out of shape can get benefit and not harm themselves as other exercises might and it can be challenging for even the most athletic person. I think it is the best out there because it brings balance to the body. It will tighten and make stronger those areas that are weak and it will loosen those areas that are tight. And as many people pointed out it calms the mind and makes you more aware of your true nature. Good luck and remember yoga is a practice. So it is not about achieving it is about doing.

Yoga as thought by many of us is not a mere exercising program. unlike practised by many of the people it is not a phyisical strengthening exercise, ofcourse it does a lot for that, but as per out maharshis yoga means chitha nirodhanam eva yoga means controling your mind as you wish. As proven by the modern science mental stress is the cause for many diseases today. by doing yoga you can get a better control on your mind but practice yoga with some diet control and from a trainer only

Yes because it helps you both mentally and physically. Mentally it teaches you to focus on one thing, and get everything else out of your mind. It destresses you and teaches you to breathe a certain way that calms you.

Physically to stretches you body and makes you more flexible, it also helps you lose weight in the process which all this exercise also helps you unwind and relax.
