My allergy to alcohol ranges from making me awfully sick next day after even 30 ml of alcohol consumed. It runs genetically since my mother, sister and at least one cousin have a similar problem. There is no cure since this results from ethyl aldehyde formed when alcohol gets broken down in the liver. Does anyone else suffer from a similar problem? Does anyone want my blood for research?

I don't have an allergy to alcohol per se, but,I can sympathize. I cannot tolerate the sulfites in wine, a glass of it gives me a headache,2 and I can hardly walk the next day because my joints get so inflamed. I tried drinking the kind that has no added sulfites, but even the naturally occuring ones were enough to trigger a response, milder but still there. Good luck

You are not alone. I have recently suffered similiar syptoms, including excessive vomiting from very small amounts of alcohol, and also have family history of allergic type reactions to alcohol. Over the past few months even one drink can make me extremely hung over and unable to funtion fully the next day. I've decided to stop drinking entirely as I can't stand how I feel anymore. Do you know/have info about the technicalities of the genetic links? I haven't been able to find any reliable research or information on this, rash free, reaction.
