Not at all, and I'm getting pretty sick of people just throwing the word hypocritical around thoughtlessly. A good rule is, if you can't spell it at least phonetically you probably don't know what it means.
Firstly, using Christmas to promote sales doesn't really mean much. Retailers have spring sales, monthly sales, it doesn't mean they consider these dates to have any significance. They're simply mentioning Christmas because they've correctly identified it as a time when people tend to buy lots of things. They use the word Christmas in their ads because they want to convince as many people to buy their stuff as possible and there are a lot of Christians around (I'm assuming you live in a country with a Christian majority). In person, however, there's a significant chance that a customer is not a Christian and it is in the store's best interests not to alienate anyone. If you celebrate Christmas you're not going to leave just because someone didn't mention it to you in the store, but some people who don't celebrate Christmas might be offended enough to leave if a staff member does greet them with "merry Christmas".

Yes it totally is! I worked at a supermarket back in the day, (okay, last year) and I always said Merry Christmas to people who were obviously celebrating Christmas!!

To call it hypocritical is to give "understatement" a new meaning! It is overwhelmingly hypocritical, until Dec. 26, when they do say, under their breath, God is good, while sorting out the $100's and $50's!
