Allow women into the clergy, and allow the clergy to marry. That will do much to solve some very serious and pressing problems within the church. Policy held by the church leadership to the contrary are simply "ostrich positions".

First things first you end the celibacy requirement for Priests. I suppose you have to do this for the nuns too,at worst it should be something the voluntarily do.
Second thing, and Catholics won't like this,is that you essentially dismantle Vatican city. How can you speak of all the good you're trying to do for the downtrodden of the world while hording what amounts to a treasure palace, the art works etc of the vatican if put on the open market could enable the church to do human outreach the likes of which mankind has never seen. The papal residence alone makes the White House look like a share croppers shack.
Also I would crack down on abuse within the church by clergy with an iron hand, the complacency the church has shown in the past on this subject is fully unforgivable,in fact every church official all the way up to the Pope who was involved in helping cover up these abuses, moving priest around, paying off families etc should not only be removed from duty, they should be summarily excommunicated. I think what I've mentioned is a start and though it sounds extreme I assure you it's no more extreme than I would ask of many other groups. I love how people use religion to talk about helping mankind and all that while basically trying instead to build some kingdom here on Earth.

it is sad to read all these "changes" people would like to see, and so many of them are'nt true anyway. Just a few examples...priests don't want money for Baptisms or weddings, it is an offering if you choose, most priests would never accept it., and certainly don't expect it. Catholics don't believe being gay is a sin, we believe that sex outside of mariage is sinful, and since gays can't marry, then any sexual activity is a sin. But that holds true for unmarried heterosexual couples too. We help the poor and sick by more than just prayer...have you heard of Catholic Charities? It is on the lines of United Way, and helps people of all religious affiliations ...it is one of the top charity-providing organizations in the world. The Cathoic Church does allow marreid priests in the Eastern Rite, and in some certain conditions in the Latin. Although the Pope might one day allow all priests to marry (that is a custom, which can be changed by the Pope), female priests will never be allowed, because that involves changing Church doctrine, which even the Pope cannot alter. Yes, there are some changes that might improve some aspects of our Faith, namely educating Catholics and non-Catholics alike about what we really believe and why. Any orginization or group or affiliation, religious or not, can always improve and adjust.

Hi...
The first change i should do is to allow priest to get marry and form a family.
So much catholic priest advice couples about marriage and also they are the advisors when some couples have problems. But.......how can someone advice about something he doesnt know properly?? They know about the family as sons...or...brothers but havent the experienc about to face the same problems they are advicing about.
They are men, as any others, so it's better to allow them to have a family.Even...i think that Jesus and Mary Magdalen were a couple....married one, bcoz, knowing the uses in those years, men didnt reach mature age single.
I think we all have heard about some priest that sodomize kids.
Wouldnt it be better if they could canalize their desires among the saint sacrament of marriage?.The catholic church is not changing according with the times, and that is why is losing pple that is going to another branches of the christianism.
This is the main change i should do.

Open up their locked archives and reveal all the spiritual knowledge they are hiding. Treat males and females as equals. Admit that being gay is not a sin. Open up their vaults containing and insane amount gold and etc., which they obtained from hiding war criminals during WW2 and Italian mobsters, and use it to help end world hunger. Make it a crime for any clergy to molest a child, be banned from the church and turned into the local authorities for proper justice. Ban the black satanic uniforms. Stop messing with politics. Admit that Jesus wasn't born on Dec.25th in a filthy barn., but in an Essene hospice.

Catch up to 2007 and world overpopulation: birth control is not only okay, it's preferable.
Ordain women as priests. The first person the "risen Christ" spoke to was a woman. Although Paul did his best to undo what Jesus did for women, Jesus was a feminist.
Actually HELP the poor, the sick, the hungry, instead of just praying for them.
Stop teaching all the nonsense about original sin, the devil and hell and damnation.

I would not change a thing.
The Church is not supposed to adapt to fit the ill-conceived visions of people. People are supposed to adapt to the beliefs of the Church.
Long answers are not necessary to answer your question. The Truth of the matter is simple.
I have an idea to use your question, and most of the answers thusfar, in a blog entry. If it is a long answer you seek, perhaps you will consider checking up on my blog, probably sometime after Christmas...

Outsource from the Vatican. That real estate has got to be worth lots. Wage scales for the help is cheaper in India and China. Would get more recruits there too. No one in the west wants to be a priest or nun any longer.

I think the communion cup ritual causes OCD-
Why is doctrine immutable-
God gave us minds to think-people who think or question doctrine are turned away-
Honest account of Catholic history made public-is it all good?
If not, what should be done?
