Hi all again!

Ok so in this book I am writing, the main character needs to start a religion (if it gets published your will find out why). And I have a few ideas about start religions but wondered if you all had any ideas of knowledge f how it is/was done officially (as it were)
I have read the Bible and the Koran. (both VERY enlightening texts) But am looking for a way to start a religion. Possibly something like the more modern religions such as Mormon fatihs or Christian Scientology.

Again thanks for all your help

well the mormons started their first meeting with six people signing a document that said they were starting the religion. There were more people present, but six was the required amount according to the laws of New York at the time.

Thus, you must check the laws of you state/country to find out how.

Or you could just get a bunch of people together to preach and teach and not worry about tax status, but there are some negatives to this too (though I'm not a lawyer. Call one to find out how, I suppose)

If this was a serious question, why the lol? Anyone can start their own religion, (in fact if you're good at it, it could be quite lucritive) but you would have to be confident and persuasive otherwise you won't get anyone to subscribe to your religion.

Religion-a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

It can be started by anyone, one person, six, or a thousand. No law will tell me whether or not I can start my own religion.

Religions need to explain fear. Fear of what comes after life is the biggie. Secondly, religions try to explain how we got here in the first place. Then, the religions try to explain what happens in between and over time develop a moral code on how to behave to one another. Some religions exclude all those who don't believe the same way while others are based on tolerance.

Take a look at how L Ron Hubbard did it for Scientology. There have been persistent rumors around for a while that he did it on a bet. I don't know if that is true or not, but he certainly gives you a good model for how to start one.

Another good example would be the Mormons.
