For years i would stop at the supermarkets and look into their trash and provide myself and the family with most of our food for free. In fact many of the places became aware of me and would delibetrately put the good food aside for me.
I mentioned this to some people that were complaining they were hving a hard time having enough money to buy food. hey condemed me and said I was terrible. No I was not that poor and that is one reason I was not.

I was never what you call poor. I earned a good living and prjovided well for the family. Yes I have a computer and in fact I have three of them. I just could not see any reason why perfictly good food should have to be thrown away. No I was not indangering any persons life.
Probably because the generation before me came through the depression and long drought with nothing and hardly anything to eat. I was taught by them so probably look at things different than the young.

I saw something like this on like 20/20 or a show similar to that. So you are not the only one. I worked at a major supermarket, and the food they threw away astounded me! I at least got them thinking to call the shelter and have them pick it up. But they still fought me on that alittle. Saying that it is bad and therefore cannot give it to the needy. No, I do not think you are bad for doing this. I don't think I would have the nerve to do that though. Everyone saves money in one way or another. This is yours. More power to ya.

Do you consider what you did as that terrible? If not, then don't worry that someone you were trying to help labled you as terrible. It is against the city laws around here to go into the dumpsters; I remember when the laws passed due to some of the messes the markets and stores had to clean up on a regular basis due to people sorting through things during the night hours. Yet, most of them I know also set aside the vegetables and old bread in special container for the pig farmers, who repay their work with pork. Each to his own and don't try to help someone like that again unless you know them better. Remember, it is what we believe ourselves to be that is the most important in the end.

No you're not a terrible person. I think you were using your smarts! Most supermarkets throw away perfectly acceptable food, because it might be slightly damaged, overstock, out of date, etc....... If you can take advantage of it, by all means, do so!

If your version of "surf and turf" is pig's feet and jellyfish instead of fillet mignon and lobster tail, more power to you. One man's meat is another man's poison...lol
