I only take my kids to the pediatrician (other than well child visits) when they have a fever and/or vomiting that's gone on for 2 days or more. As long as it's just a cold, like you say, I would make him comfortable with the OTC meds and make sure he takes it easy. That's just my opinion though. Good luck with the little guy!

I have twin 2 year olds. If the cough doesn't sound real bad, just give him some OTC meds, put a humidifier in his room or where he is going to be for most of the day (if you don't have a humidifier, then get the shower real hot and fill the bathroom with steam and sit in there for a few min. about as long as it takes to read him a story, a few times a day) and he will be better in no time.

You can give OTC meds first, cause it's a season for such diseases, I rely on Homeopathic solutions for such common ailments. Some time we can avoid visiting a Doctor, if child is not so restless. But take precautions to things go worst.

In he has no fever tough it out, because he doesn't need an antibiotic. You can use those mentholated rubs at night to help, OTC as good but don't over use them.

If he's running a temp. Take him in. My son had constant "viral" infections like a cold but would spike temps. They kept telling me that he just had a cold and let it work itself out but later we found that all those supposed viral infections actually were infections attacking his pancreas and now my son is a diabetic. Just watch for temps.

It's flu season, a l ot of nasty germs out there so to keep peace of mind for yourself and comfort for your son take him in to be seen. Never can be too careful with the little ones.

Most mothers instinctively know when something is just "not right" with their child. Trust your gut! If it tells you he's not right, take him in. If it has been more than three days and he's not getting any better, take him in. There is never any harm in being on the safe side.
