Many neo-pagans celebrate the winter solstice which this year falls on 21 December at 7:22 pm EST. Lighting a special candle is a ritual that my family enjoys--in fact, we burn quite a few candles anyway. A gift to remember your friend is very thoughtful. But even a simple phone call to give good wishes (especially on the solstice) would probably mean a lot. I have friends of other religions (and no religion) and I find it touching that they take the time to remember me on the solstices and equinoxes.

Christmas can be celebrated by both Pagans and Christians. December 25 was originally a Pagan festival, until it was changed to make peace will all people, Chriatians and Pagans alike. It is probably best to ask your friend first, but I think it will be okay.

That's very considerate of you. It's always good to try and meet people on their own terms. Definitely ask your friend. Usually most pagans have grown up in Christian households and still celebrate the holiday on a secular, family level. Folks like that won't mind a gift. Whether or not your friend is one of those, you'll have to find out.
Besides, gifts between friends are always nice.
Take care,
Laz

I am Wiccan, and I still do Christmas. It is out of family tradition, and not out of religion, so I'd say it is ok to give a Pagan a card. I love getting cards and presents, who doesn't!!

Nahh. Most pagans celebrate Yule, and usually celebrate Christmas right along with their friends and families as well--celebration-wise, they're not much different. You're fine.

You can tell her Happy Yule because it's the original Pagan holiday, but hey I'm sure she won't get mad or anything. I never have either, I'm Chaotic Pagan (eclectic witch)

I don't know, being an atheist myself... I think you should just ask your friend. Get it straight from the horses mouth, aye?
