Just curious! I've never been one, I've always know that there is a God, even as a small child. Even though I was raised in a non-believing household.

Well, this atheist does not believe in gods. Not the Judeo-Christian god, not the Islamic god, not the pagan gods, not the Greek mythological gods, not Satan as a god, not human beings as gods, not myself as god... I am without believe in ALL gods.

What I DO believe in is honesty, rationality, reality, respect, logic, compassion, empathy and sympathy, science, knowledge, education and learning, decency, charity, community, doctors, medication, soldiers, hippies, love, beauty... is that enough?

I've always had burning questions since I was a kid -- and I realized that humans have this mechanism where they can arbitrarily adopt a belief system and treat it as reality. When I see people do this, I'm amazed because I can't understand it -- I know that whatever Reality is, it isn't changed by any belief system. And so I always had and have lingering underlying doubt about the potential alternatives.
Now, with that, I've also had some real spiritual experiences. And they happened when my 'self' was completely out of the way (I had thought all the spiritual stuff was mind training or beliefs to deal with death but an experience proved otherwise). So.... I consider myself an atheist ONLY because I don't believe in any of the limiting concepts of god -- and I don't think BELIEF should be the end (instead, it needs to be the means and not treated as truth).

Well, Athiests vary. In general, most believe that this is all there is, but this is something, so something should be made of it. Some believe that there is good in being "good," even if there is no reward later on down the road. Some believe that, because there is no reward or punishment, they should just take whatever they can now, cause there's nothing to look forward to. People are people, no matter what they believe. Some are good, some are not so much. The "bad" Athiests fear no divine retribution,so they act like jerks; the "good" ones expect no divine rewards, but find that a life well lived is reward enough for doing so.

I believe there is no God.
This got me into trouble with religious teachers in schools and with religious aunts at family gatherings ever since I was a small child.

I have always known that there was no God!

I am not so sure about the monster under my bed!

Lol Lovj answer was pretty funny. Anyways, Atheist only exist by reason of the religious. They are the paradox to the religious and thus a balance in this world. Every thing invokes it's opposite, Atheist believe that religion and all that composes it is pure hogwash by those to weak minded to find out things for themselves. But the Atheist few on this, is only a by product of the suspension of reason that is involved in religious circles. Reason is probably the strongest principle of Atheism, if any one completely negates reason and their beliefs are completely devoid of them, then an atheist will by no means believe. Atheist believes in reason beyond all other things, from this comes every other thing in Atheism, utilizing the facilities of reason to know.

Well, atheist means "without god", so not god, but you probably already knew that. What can atheists believe in? Science/evolution I guess. I'm personally agnostic, so I believe in the possibility of a god, or higher power, but I see no proof yet that there is one.

Atheists believe that God did not create man but ancient man who created God. You claim that you always knew that there was a man living in a cloud without anyone telling you. Then what did you originally call him? If you originally called him God, it's because someone told you.

Some of them have simply been turned off by religious hypocrites, and they probably really are believers, deep down.

I've noticed a new breed, however, that appears to be more dedicated to their anti-God, liberal-Socialist secular agenda. Those are usually the ones you see on here taking cheap shots and making insults.

Athiests tend to believe in 1) Science, 2) Logic, and 3) proof.

Many (but not all) scientists and philosophers are either Athiest or Agnostic.
