Oh, yes. The highest suicide risk of any mental illness: 20-25% of untreated bipolar sufferers will attempt suicide, 15% will succeed. Very, very scary. I have been there many times.

An ex-friend of mines is bipolar, she has a fear of not living to see her next birthday. I didn't understand why she said this until she told me that she might commit suicide. She has this fear every year until her birthday passes, so far she haven't done anything to hurt herself, but i'm afraid one day she will.

yes they are when they are depressed. they also can be quite suicidal when they are initially getting out of their depression, we used to say that was the most dangerous time period for suicide with a bi polar person. this happened to by brother. he went off his pills, got admitted, said he felt better, discharged himself and the next day he committed suicide.

YES, IN THEIR DEPRESSED STAGE. I READ IN A BOOK ONCE THAT 1 IN 5 BIPOLAR PEOPLE END UP KILLING THEIR SELVES, SAD BUT TRUE. HOPE THIS HELPED.

we can be at the lowest point of our depressive episodes. But the meds usually keep it in control if you take them like ur supposed to.
