Dreams may represent the yearnings in our lives - what we lack in real life. Strangely though, I have met two such persons in my dream - with full names! I noted that name down just in case. We would not know what would happen but it would definitely raise more than an eyebrow if the person with that name came across our path one day. Life is mysterious that way.

Dreams do have a basis in reality. The catch is that if it is based in reality, it's either based on a desire or a past experience.
Most dreams can be thought of as long trains of abstract thought. In other words, you may hear a police siren while asleep. This may trigger some portion or aspect of some memory (maybe a fire alarm or some other signal...) and this may lead to a whole dream sequence that uses some elements from various experiences all tied to that original memory that was triggered.
Unfortunately, the hippocampus (the part of the brain that stores new short term memories) is mostly inactive and this causes you to have very little or no short term memory in dreams. (Your long term and short term memories can usually be recalled just fine, just not stored.) This causes things out of sight (in your dream's eye) to be easily forgotten. (Proof of this comes when you try to read something in a dream and the text changes each time you look at it.)
This can cause dream sequences to behave very much like a child with ADD: unless you intently focus on one thing (i.e. being with somebody), the scene is likely to change constantly in some random way until you wake up. In other words, most dreams are incoherent thoughts and visualizations and are based on short term and long term memories from past experiences without relation to the future.

It is hard to say with dreams. You are probably right, but you just never can be sure. Some dreams can come true in life. However, I wouldn't advise depending on the possibility. It is just best to continue with your life as it is and see what happens. Life is something that you just never know what is around the corner. That is why it can be so enjoyable at times.

Back when I was younger, I had a dream about a guy and I never knew who he was or what he did. One day I just happened to meet him out of nowhere, We became friends, and than boyfriend and girlfriend. But than I broke up with him because it just wasn't working out. Sometimes I think that was my soul mate that I should of never let go. After we broke up he fathered a child 2 years later. Weird huh?

Dreams mean nothing.
They are your brain hallucinating, and your mind tosses in things you may have been thinking about.
It's a huge mistake to over-inflate the importance of dreams.
My wife left me, because she had a dream that this guy she met who works at the store was her "soal mate" and she was supposed to be with him.
Guess what? She moved out, (even though she said I didn't do anything wrong, and she wasn't unhappy with me), I couldn't talk her out of it, and nothing at all ended up happening with that guy, so now she's all alone.
Big mistake.

I had a dream the other night that I was in Amazing Race, but Jeff Probst was the host and his real name was Sheldon. Plus he kept talking about "my regular girlfriend." Does this mean he's cheating on Julie whatsername? Does this mean I'm going to be in Amazing Race? Does this mean anything? I doubt it.
