In a darkened room stands 3 chairs - all facing the same way and each one behind the other. Also in the room is a box containing 3 red hats and 2 green ones.

A man enters the room and takes a hat from the box, puts it on his head and sits in chair number 1 facing the wall.

A second man enters, takes a hat from the box, puts it on his head and sit in chair number 2.

A third man enters and, having taken a hat from the box sits in chair number 3 - right at the back.

A woman enters and puts on the light. She then asks the man in chair number 3, the one at the back, if he knows what colour hat he has on. The man looks at chairs 1 & 2 and says No he does not know.

The woman then askes the man in chair number 2 if he knows and, having looked at chair 1 says No he does not know.

The woman then asks the man in chair number 1 - the one facing the wall, if he knows and he says Yes he does know.

What colour hat does he have on?

I believe the dude on chair #1 has a red hat on. First of all, he is the only one to hear all the answers of the other two and by concluding with what he heard, he knows what he has on.

The chair #3 dude that saw both of the hats is uncertain of his own because the hats in front of him are of different colours. He can be either red or green.

The chair #2 dude that saw the hat in front of him is uncertain because depending on one colour, he can not know for sure if he has red or green.

Now finally, the chair #1 dude hears the answers and knowing that he and dude #2 must have different hats, than dude #3 would have one of the duplicate colours. So they couldn't be both green, so therefore he must be red.

I realize that this is a very illogical answer, so my other guess would be that he has his own pocket mirror that can reflect and let him what he has on.

That's not actually possible to work out.
If 2&3 were wearing red, there is still a possibility 1 would be wearing either red or green.
Because 1&2 weren't both wearing green, 3 could not answer 'red'
It would work a lot better if there was only two of each colour.
3 people, 5 hats, 2 colours. It's not possible to determine.

gotta be a red hat cos by looking at 2 people he knew his colour hat. therefore the other two must be wearing the two green hats otherwise he could not be sure.

more proof- by looking at number 3, number 2 says he does not know. therefore 3 must have a red hat on because number 2 cannot work out his own hat colour because if number 3 has a red hat there are two green hats and 2 red hats left so he could not definitively answer.

this is a little bit confused logic but i know i am right!

Red.

If both 1 and 2 were wearing green, #3 would know that he was wearing red.

If #2 saw that #1 was wearing a green one, then he would know that he (#2) had a red one since #3 could not answer, so #1 had to be wearing red.

red because-
the man at the back looked and didnt see 2 green hats(if he had he would have known his hat was red)
the man in the middle saw the hat of the man in front (and knowing that there were not 2 greens) if he had seen green he would have known that his was red.,he obvoiusly saw red and therefore couldnt be sure if his hat was either red /green.
The front man used the logic to identify his red hat.

There is a mirror on the wall. The one nearest the wall can see what hat he has on. The ones behind him cannot see the mirror (as their view is blocked).
