I don't think it's been proven that second had smoke is worse for your health than first hand smoke; it's being studied. However, we do know that first hand smoke causes cancer. It would logically follow that second hand smoke is also bad for us, but calling it "worse" than first hand smoke hasn't been proven at all.

I do think that second hand smoke is worse than regular smoke for another reason, though. Someone inhaling smoke directly from a cigarette is doing it voluntarily. Someone inhaling second hand smoke usually does not have a choice about it.

Despite claims by major health organizations and anti-smoking nazis that thousands and thousands of people die each year due to secondhand smoke exposure, they are unable to provide even a single name of a person who has died from secondhand smoke. My brother and I grew up with both parents smoking, in the house, the car (windows frequently shut), and virtually everywhere else, when you could smoke anywhere (back in the 1970s), and we've always been just fine healthwise.

All cigarettes have filters at the head, meaning the toxic inhaled are not much. What's exhaled out is the filtered toxics and unwanted gases. These gases proved to be cancerous than what is inside a smoker.
