Well taking the Nyquil and the Tylenol pm is not going to help. After a while the effect that they had on you won't work any longer. You will find that true with almost any med's or Medcation you get from a doctor. He will not keep giving you something to sleep, and the over the counter aren't going to work forever.

There may be a reason for the lack of sleep, like there should of been a reason for the hard time waking up. The hard time waking up would proably be from ( just taking a guess) not getting a good nite sleep, even though you though you did. You might have a sleeping disorder, that may need something beside taking pills. I know i had a sleeping study done, and sure enough, I thought I had a great night sleep there, for once in my life. They found out that part of my problems was i was not breathing all the time while i was sleeping, and so it keapt me very tired at times, and other times i just could not go to sleep, because i was afear of dreaming, or not waking up on time for something important i had to get to. You know when i put on my mask i wear at night, it really helps when the machine kicks in. Now you may not have that problem, but there are so many reasons a person does not sleep that yes you should talk to a doctor that specializes in that field. In the long run you may find out by him, it is just something simple, and you can get back to sleeping on your own without the help of med's, and over the counter stuff. I would say it is worth the try with a doctor in that field, and if you don't think he is right, go to another doctor and see what he says about it.

Do you drink coffee? Maybe you are drinking too much. Tea after dinner
could affect your ability to sleep too. Nyquil and tylenol pm can become
addictive. I would stop taking them immediately. Everyone goes through
periods where they have a difficult time sleeping. I often wake up in the
middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. The important thing is to
remember that it will pass. The more you worry about it the worse it gets.
You have to relax. The meditation technique described by the other answer
will help.

The best thing is a over priced Dr.
If you don't take vitamins, try a daily vitamin to help the chemical imbalance your body could be going through. Vitamin take weeks to start helping. Don't take them before you lay down most have energizer like gin-sing and others, when your body get use to them it won't madder. I don't have as much trouble going to sleep any more. Anyways I fill better know that I take a malti vitamin daily. You take vitamins at your own risk.
All the night you have a hard time sleeping write the things you think about that and write down the foods you eat thous night
the events that happen that day. Then try to avoid them 3 or more hours before you go to bed. A exercise is a good way to burn extra energy 1 or 2 hours be for you lay down give your blood time to slow down.
The older you get your body will make changes mostly brake down.

What kinds of food /drinks are you eating/drinking at night? Stay away from things that have alot of caffeine in them. What about stress in your life? Can you get rid of some? Tried listening to music and relaxing. What about a glass of warm tea? ( decaff of course.) Some teas even have ingredients to help you go to sleep.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

if you don't exercise try a small walk after dinner , or a bigger one if you do exercise,
otherwise put a radio on softly with gentle music to clear your thoughts.
stop all caffeine drinks before 5
have a nice hot bath with oils in it just before you go to bed.
if really desperate try them all they won't hurt
