Many Jews wear them all the time except during certain activities, like sleeping.

My dad wears his all the time, well, almost all the time like I said...

It does not bother him what people think about it.

Assuming you are a Jew and you are asking from a Jewish law point of view:

The TAZ, one of the early codifiers, who's work Shulchan Aruch (the Code of Jewish Law) is based on says that the entire Jewish people originally took this custom on only with regards to walking 6 to 8 ft, but now (meaning 1,000 years ago) they have extended the custom and it is required to wear on even when sitting in one's own house.

Various acharonim (commentators on Shulchan aruch) ask to what extent did the Jewish people take this custom on: Did they accept it as a binding commandment, or as a special pious action they will do if there is no extenuating circumstance causing them to lose money or feel endangered.

(Normally just losing money or being worried about just being beaten up is not enough to set aside a binding custom of the Jewish people. Worried about being killed is.)

Various people disagree: The Chofetz Chaim is stringent, Moshe Feinstein was lenient. THe Satmer Ruv was stringent and extended the prohibition to changing any distinctive Jewish clothing.

In this case, you have to clarify what uncomfortable meens (feel your life is endangered, you might lose money, you just feel seperated) and discuss it with someone who knows which acharon your community hold by on this matter.

It is the right thing to do to wear it at all times. However, you are a Jew no matter what you do. You can start with small things and then build up from there. Nothing will happen to you if you do not wear it. But, there are certain levels to reach, you can keep growing.
