Its good P.R. on both sides. Hasn't almost every head of state and country in the world ,plus film and recording stars had meetings with a Pope.
I don't even think that the Pope makes individual decisions in these time. Like a Crown Head or President of a country ,he has a panel of Cardinals, made up of people who are specialists in diverse areas,he is like a chairman of a company.
Due to the Middle East situation it was a great thing for him to be seen as having no bias regarding Islam. He even turned to the east to pray.
This is correct political and religious etiquette for 2006 and both sides are to be commended for carrying out this demonstration of tolerance.
But I doubt if they turn to him for advice, other than personal if they belong to the Roman Catholic faith.
Our Johnnie Howard only bows down for George W. anyway. He may have to ask George's advice ,and check if it was a good idea to go and see the Pope

The Pope is considered to be the holiest man in the whole wide world, and is said to speak to god. A lot of people would look up to a man like that, especally christians. So yeah, the pope has good persuasive power. If he told people to jump off of a bridge so many would.

The pope certainly hasn't persuaded me that he's serious about cleaning up his own house. Yes, I'm referring to the pedophilia scandals here. Ditto the last pope.
The pope is a political head of state as well as a religious official. When other politicians officials talk to him it's usually more about diplomacy than religion.

No, I think that the Pope is drunk on his own power and dangerous for the world.
And that doesn't say much for the American Presidents.
As for Canada, I know my Prime Minister doesn't go talk to the Pope and get his advice on anything. Religion doesn't play any part in Canadian politics. Unlike the US.

he has only symbolic power. he's like a gamble. world powers use him as a voice only because of what he represents to a certain group of people. sometimes his advice works if the other leader in the conflict is catholic.

The Pope is the authority of the Vatican. He is responsible for a long list of problems I won't even get into. His comments are inappropriate, biassed and vehement. I am not blaming Catholics here.

By position alone he does carry a lot of wait yes. But as a person, I hate to say that he's already made some remarks he shouldn't have.
