If you do not think God thinks it is a sin, why are you wanting to ask forgiveness for it? It would be like asking someone to forgive you for stealing something that already belonged to you..it was not stealing.
I would be more concerned about having a right relationship with God to begin with then asking God to forgive me for a specific sin that you think may not even be sin in HIS eyes.

Well, technically, there is no 'minor sin' (Matt. 5:19 on breaking the 'least of the Commandments').
But you also seem to say God does not define it as a sin! If that is the case, no problem!
If it actually is a 'sin', then repentance is all it takes. If you believe in Jesus as your Saviour, repent what you have done and INTEND now not to do it again, you have all the elements there. Confess that you have failed and ask forgiveness and God "is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us fom any kind of unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
If Jesus could tell Peter He expected him - and us - to forgive our neighbour "seventy times seven times" (Matt. 18:22), can you think God will do any less? It doesn't matter if you fail again - He will still forgive you if you are really sorry for doing it.

First of all, in keeping with the thought that God actually exists...what makes you think that anyone here in "Answers" can presume to speak for GOD and give you an answer. For that matter, even if it is a "minor sin" - how dare you presume to speculate on what GOD would define as a sin. As far as forgiveness - if your conscience requires the consolation and reassurance that comes with forgiveness, then, whatever it is that you have done has caused you to have feelings of guilt. If that is the case and you have "wronged" someone or something, no matter how minor YOU think it is... then it was, by nature, a sin. To repent and start fresh implies that all someone has to do is "ask for forgiveness" and "poof" just like magic, they can move on as if nothing had ever happened. To ask GOD for forgiveness, in most cases, allows the "sinner" to avoid confronting the person they have committed the sin against. To say, "well, I know that GOD has forgiven me" is a perpetuation of the selfishness that caused the sin in the first place. Instead of whimpering and whining about forgiveness from GOD... Stand tall and take responsibility for your actions (no matter how small) and ask for forgiveness from "MAN".

djm749 had the best answer for you. However, let me elaborate and summarize what he said in a smaller answer.
To God, all sin is sin. There are no degrees of sin. God who is holy cannot allow any sin to go unpunished, whether it be stealing a paperclip from work or rape and murder. We as humans are not capable of not sinning. God knew this and provided an ultimate sacrifice for our sins...His Son, Jesus Christ. His death on the cross was the payment for our sins BUT ONLY IF we put our faith and trust in Him alone for salvation from the penalties of our sins. If we don't then we must pay for our sins ourselves. Jesus described this penalty as an eternal place of torment, the Lake of Fire.
Now, I'm NOT telling you to go to a church or to join a religion. That's all man made. But I am telling you that if you haven't done this already, you must ask Jesus to forgive you of all your sins and to be your Lord and Savior. It must be done before you die and you never know when you'll die. So, pray it now this very moment.
After that, when you fall into sin, pick yourself back up, say sorry to your Heavenly Dad, and try not to do it again. But don't dis yourself because once God adopts you, it's permanent.
I guess that wasn't shorter. But it's still true.

According to the Bible sin is the transgression of the law. Paul said I knew no sin if I did not find it from the law. And if there is no law than there is no sin.
But of course Gpd promised to forgive us to the uttermost, meaning there is no limit of the numbers we sinned agaiinst Him if we ask for His forgiveness. If He asked us to forgive our fellow men 70 X 7, which is 490 times. Which does not mean at all that after 489 times we said: "That's it, you come to the end of your rope, buddy! If you do it once more I will have no more chance of forgiveness from me. If we as erring human beings should forgive our fellow men who wrongs us so many times, do you think God will be less tolerant than us?
The only problem is not how many times he can forgive us, but whether we will still be repentance or have the chance to repent before we die?
How do you go about repenting. Acknowledge your sin and promise Him not to repeat it and ask His power to overcome it.
The Bible says we are saved by grace from sin. His grace is sufficnent to save the greatest of sinner, FROM SIN, and not IN SIN.

HE ALREADY HAS.
1. God's love is unconditional.
2. ! John 1:9, for if we confess our sins ( to God) He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.) That is no life time maximum.
3. GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOU, YOU NEED TO FORGIVE YOURSELF. What right do you have to judge yourself for sin that Christ has paid for and forgiven?
4. We are not perfect and God knew we would make mistakes,
and sometimes those mistakes are OVER AND OVER, and take time for us to deal with.
5. REPENT COMES FROM THE GREEK WORD METANOIA--AND IT MEANS TO CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT SOMETHING. Change the way you feel about what you are doing and you will not do it any more.
1. CRYING NEVER PAID FOR A SIN
2 SAYING IM SORRY NEVER PAID FOR A SIN
3 QUITING A SIN NEVER JUSTIFIES SIN
4 BEGGING FORGIVENESS NEVER GOT ANYONE FORGIVEN.
ONLY THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST JUSTIFIES YOU AND CLEANSES YOU FROM SIN, AND CHRIST DIED FOR EVERY SIN YOU HAVE EVER OR WILL EVER COMMIT, ISN'T THAT AWESOME?
SIN DEMANDS A SACRIFICE, AND THAT SACRIFICE HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE OUT OF LOVE FOR YOU.

God will forgive you. If the desire to be forgiven is in your heart and it is truly what you want, bow down and ask for his forgiveness and guidance. And yes, you are right, you do not have to share your sin...it is between you and God.
Blessings

The Jewish take on this is: If a person regrets what he did, and sincerely tries not doing it again and asks forgiveness for it, G-d forgives. If your "sin" was something wrong against another person, you have to rectify it with that person also.
Never allow your "regrets" to make you depressed. That isn't what G-d wants. Your regrets should be a force to do better.

Yes He already has. You just have to believe it and move on. All sins are equal to each other. Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. All other Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:37-40
