If i download linux can I either over write XP or make a seperate portion?

You can have two operating systems on one computer. No problem. I used to have Linux and Windows ME on my computer at the same time. When you start up the computer it'll ask you which system you want to use. Easy breezy.

Yes you can. First install Windows and then Linux.
