Some people in general feel that way. Any group or even individual can feel they need to banish the other side of the spectrum. It's not exclusive with just people of this particular set of values.

I also don't think it's a majority of "Evangelicals" who feel this way... only the border line crazy-mad, few that the media perhaps swarm and popularise.

Yes, go look up "Tin Drum" and "Oklahoma". Academy Award winning movie a bunch of evangelicals temporarily got banned in Oklahoma.
