There could be many things that could cause this. Yes one could be that something is scaring them. But i would lean more to the fact that it might be teething or the most common would be growth spurts. Children do thier growing when they are sleeping and this can sometimes become painfull and wake them up. How is your child acting the rest of the day. Is he/she eating a little more than usual or sleeping a bit more? If so this can also be a sign that he/she is growing.

Well i have a 2 year old and she does this sometimes. I asked her doctor about it and he said it might be night terrors which are different from nightmares...They can start as early as one..If this keeps up for longer than a week i'd give your child's doctor a call to just make sure it's night terrors or nightmares instead of getting sick or something else thats wrong..Hope this helps :)

My son started having night terrors just after he turned 1. You can tell it is a night terror & not a night mare beacuse they are inconsoliable, appear awake (really not) have eyes open & usually fight you try to get down etc. My son would not take a bottle nor breast feed when he had one. I walked & walked & walked & rubbed his back. If his sounds like what your child is going through do not wake them, it makes it worse rather try to get them back to sleep. And speak with the childs doctor... Good Luck

Mine still does and he is 2.
I think it is from tv or violent things he see's on tv (his dad always has the tv on). Or it could be a bad dream.
Just go in there and sleep with him until he falls asleep.

3 possible things you should always check: Wet diapers, he's hungry, or he's not feeling well. Keep those 3 things in mind.
