Hi I'm about to turn 21, usually in NY when a person turns 21 their license expires and they get a new one that doesn't say UNDER 21. Unfortunately my license doesn't expire for another year. I was just wondering if I would be let into a club or bar to drink if I was 21 but still help the under 21 license. My friends are planing an outing and I was just wondering if I would run into any issues.

No you'll be fine. As long as your birthday proves you're 21, they have to let you in.

I am a barmaid, and I was trained by the state of Louisiana, Alcohol board that if the liscence says UNDER 21, it doesn't matter if they are 23 I am not allowed to serve them.

Now I use my own judgement, if they seem nice and respectful, I'll serve them and just tell them to go get a new liscence the next day. If I don't like them, or they are really rude I follow the local law. But I also have the right to change my prices according to people attitude, I love being, owner and manager.

Maybe in NY the laws are a little different but I know here, I could get arrested for selling a 21 y/o a drink, just because his liscence says under 21, now I could beat it in court but then I would have to pay court costs.

Amazing the odd answers you can get on this thing. As long as it is your birthday you are fine. Many states differ on their ID's but atleast in Colorado you are fine when it is midnight. And No, no bar HAS to legally let you in. Any business can deny you entry no matter your race, gender, handicap or age. That is their right. You typically have around 15 days to renew your license after your birthday even if it says it is good for another year (again may be different from state to state) once you turn 18 or 21. Happy Birthday and enjoy!

When I turned 21 I used my licence even though it said under 21 untill blah blah blah, some places asked me for a second form of ID but no one denied me service, I got a new licence a couple of days after my 21st birthday, I suggest it though. But no real problem should occur, any bar that would refuse service over that is probably a bar you dont want to go to anyway.
P.S. It was in Chicago I did all this, so I dont know if NY is any different

You can go to the DMV and get a replacement license before it expires - without having to retake any tests! I don't know what the fee's are in NY but in Oregon it's $30.00.

Usually it's for people who have had their license stolen or lost it themselves. (Although I've heard of some people who have their license redone just for a new picture). lol

But either way, by law you're allowed into any bar once you're 21. They should be looking at your D.O.B. on your license for admittance into bars, nothing else.

Hey, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :)

Kory is correct. If you are 21 yet carry a license that says "under 21" if the DOB proves you are 21 or over, unless the bouncer is an idiot, you'll be fine.

if the business is doing their job lawfully, then you will not be allowed to enter...I have a liquor license, (no pun intended, lol) and I've attended the servers classes..the law states that if a person enters the establishment with an invalid identification, they will not be permitted, regardless of age. Even if you have that i.d stating your age & photo...the date has to be current, and there cannot be an "under 21" on the card..it's the law, this goes for every U.S state..If you are allowed into the club with that I.D...and should a law officer or liquor inspector enter and check for I.D's, and you show that...the owner, bartender and yourself would all be given a hefty fine or even jail time...guaranteed..so to save yourself the court fees, the morning of your b-d, go to the DMV, and get your I.D replaced, this way by the time you go out, you'll be legal, and lemme tell you, it feels awesome :)....oh, and P.S.....be responsible, i know it's your 21'st but don't drink and drive or ride with a drunk person...the DWI fines, having to give your ride a "blow" (interlock system), and possibly your life isn't worth it...take care

I think that you can get around this problem with a repetitious belabored explanation that will ruin the fun of going out drinking. I'd suggest going to the DMV, I know it sucks but not as much as attracting the attention of a bouncer with a bad attitude.

My daughter had a matching concern. In ok. below 21 is outlined "portrait". and "panorama" over 21. yet you may factor out your DOB. Or once you turn 21 you need to bypass in and renew early.

As long as your birthdate is not, it's fine. When's the big day? I turn 21 on the 29th. Wooo-Hooo!!!!!! Lets get really drunk.
Also if you have a passport that'll work too.
