I don't think Americans are ignorant of Islam. And I don't think Americans hate muslims. But, they do have just cause to be apprehensive about them.
Maybe the Koran teaches to tolerate all religion but it isn't that way in practice. I dare you to carry a Christian bible to Saudi Arabia, the one Arab country that is the most friendly toward the U.S.
You might argue they get their news fed to them by propaganda media that have their own agenda but still there are enough ways on the Internet to check the accuracy of those reports plus there are people coming back from Iraq and other countries where Islam is the predominant faith who have seen first hand what is happening.
Islamics treat women like they are the cause of sin when really it is the men who don't seek the power from God to keep their sinful thoughts under control. Their behavior reveals their thoughts.
The daughters of men and mothers of children are treated like dogs. Third class citizens. Sunni and Shiites kill each other over differences of opinion. Nowhere in the world do you find such atrocities between Christians. There has been violence in Ireland between English and Irish. That has been made out to be between Catholics and Protestants but in fact it is between the wealthy English and the poor who are Irish.
Nowhere do you hear of Christian terror groups blowing up buildings, lopping off heads. You could argue that the Christian American government kills people but unlike Islam, the government is not controlled by any religion and that is the biggest issue where Islamics are ignorant of Americans.
You could argue that the terrorists are a minority of Muslims but how do you account for the demonstrations with thousands of Muslims marching saying. "Death to America". Such behavior reveals the inner thoughts.
Most Americans would prefer to have all the soldiers home. Not out policing the world. Most Christian groups in America would like nothing better than to melt down all the weapons and put an end to war. Do you hear that from the Imams in Islamic countries? Christians do not march in the streets by the thousands shouting, "Death to Islam", because it goes against their character. They do not rejoice when news comes of Palestinians killed in a raid or by a bomber. That to them is wrong because they consider life to be precious. True christians are saddened when they hear that muslims were killed by any means. That is one attitude Islam has yet to embrace....

You are already accusing everyone of hatred towards Muslims when in all reality you don't know what everyone thinks. I can just about imagine that Islam is the largest growing religion if they kill those who try to leave it and kill those who don't follow it when given a chance. That kind of lowers the population you think? I do learn some from this site and from internet sites and yes, the news, etc. I also notice you Muslims have a way of getting terribly angry for just questions and answers. Not everyone is going to just convert to Muslim because you say so. Would you convert to Christianity? I thought not! Anyway, try to relax and just enjoy that people are on here taking the time to ask and answer questions, no matter how stupid they may appear. It might help if you just ignore the ones you don't like.
Also sweetie, we can't read the Quran, because it is in Arabic or whatever language you speak.

We can't even teach our school children good science and you want comparative religions? There is probably an elective in some High Schools that touches on it. Almost every two year college will accept courses that cover the basics and that of other faiths as general education, an elective. Time magazine and the like publish and in depth article every now and then. Newspapers are garbage and never let the truth hurt circulation or a good headline. It is not just willful ignorance; it is the belief that people who think and people who answer hard questions with other than pat answers are unreliable charlatans or evil brain-washers.

For idiot that said because people are only getting one side of the story, by going to news.faithfreedom.org
You make no sense, how is it that so many people know the phrase Islam the Religion of Peace?
How the hell is it that so many people know that phrase if there was a conspiracy by the media to tarnish the image of islamE. Islam is lame and has had what used to be in my eyes a beautiful image tarnished by it's own people by their own sick terroristic ACTIONS and the NON ACTION by the so called moderate muslims who could be and should be up in arms against their so called enemies the TERRORIST.
But no! the moderate muslims are found trying to hold back the bloody hemorrhaging known as the awakening of the consciousness of the world trying to do public relations damage control of their evil ideology so we can fall back to sleep and let it creep back into our lives so we can continue to pay the price.
Here is a clue we see the damage that muslims do to the world and we are go to end it by showing you the error of your ways.

There's certainly some truth in that. Of course not all muslims are terrorists, it is only a handful of the ignorant ones who are that have tainted the image of Islam. I live in a Muslim country and the muslims are in fact just the same as any other human. Yes, there will be the ignorant ones who are bad, but the majority are normal beings making a decent living.

Just curious, why is your response that people have to know more about ISLAM and should read the Koran? Why would this solve people's alleged racism?
After all, my response to anti semetism wouldn't be that people should learn mroe about Judaism and read the Bible. I would say that they would need to learn about Jews. (Then again, if they're anti semetic, trying to correct it with education would probably not help them.)
The reason why I say this is because it really sounds like some lame attempt to evangelize, similar to some things I've heard some (not very good at it) missionaries say to Jews.
Also, though it may be possible that Islam is the fastest growing religion, I doubt this is due to people converting but rather more due to straight demographics (i.e. Muslims have more children than Christians).

I can see that you are upset and feel the need to vent. It is interesting that you chose the word Ignorant. That is a word that will cause some people to become upset.
perhaps a better word would be uneducated about it.
not every one learns about every religion, I have no problem with any of them. I do how ever find it troublesome the way you word what you said. On one hand you say your not trying to be disrespectful yet you say we are bred the way we are and need to learn more. I find that wording to be inflammatory and said to insight an argument. Perhaps you truly didn't mean to but need to lean how to communicate your point clearer and with out the jabs you know will cause people to strike back.
unless that was your intent.
peace be with us all.

From what most of us can see, it isn't only us Westerners or Christians who "hate" Muslims; apparently, a lot of you Muslims hate each other, too, depending on what sect you belong to (Sunni, Shiite, etc.). It's hard to have much respect for a religion that revels in senseless slaughter. Granted, the sectarian warfare among the early Christians is nothing to be proud of, and the ongoing nonsense in Northern Ireland is shameful, but for the most part we've learned to at least tolerate each other. You Muslims, on the other hand, cry "jihad!" at the drop of a hat and, seemingly on a daily basis, pledge to kill all the "infidels" (that usually means Americans). Let's face it: That doesn't make the rest of us too comfortable. Maybe if you Muslims kept yourselves in check a little better, and reined in your more psychotic followers, we might be willing to listen a little more closely to your message.

It is a shame isn't it? People screaming for religious freedom while wanting to restrict the faith of another. What they really should have said lo, so many years ago is something akin to Thou shalt not accept anything different than thine own clone, if they wanted to be this hurtful.
I don't hate anyone or anything and I would hope I am not the minority in the world. As a practicing pagan, I'd like to think that religious tolerance is around to protect everyone and anyone. If I am fighting for my own rights to practice my belief you can damn well expect me to see the whole picture and realize by standing up for my own beleifs I am standing up for everyone's. But some don't see it like that at all.
I have actually stopped a group of beligerant beerbeeks from attacking a group of Islamics. I know, what was I thinking. Forgiveme for putting my fellow man ahead of my own agenda.

Your book doesn't interest me, because I have studied history and know about your bloody prophet. I have been to the mid-east and seen with my own eyes the continuing result of your religion. I have read the papers of your big-shot religious leaders and seen what ignorant vipers they were and are. I find your religion disgusting in the extreme. Your treatment of women is enough to tell anyone with eyes and ears that your religion is twisted and sick. Speak not of religious tolerance. Right now the Sunnis and Shias are tolerating each other with guns and bombs daily. You should not ask me to judge you by your religion, either. I have precisely zero respect for your religion. You would have to be a vastly better person than your religion before I would even notice you.
