I had to go to the emergency room about a month and a half ago because I had a kidney stone and didnt know until the pain became unbearable. So they gave me an IV, meds, and sent me home hours later to eventually pass it, WELL they poked me twice for the iv and my vein since then has been swelling up off and on and often throbbing from pain. It was only one vein but now one very close to it is doing the same thing. Does anyone know what the reasoning for this is? Ive heard that its normal for the vein to swell but then go back to normal a few days to a week later (not in a month).....I'm calling my doc monday but as for now, Im getting worried....

You should go see your doctor. I could be nothing or it could be an infection. You should never wait for a month, if it was serious it could have killed you by now.

The most likely answer is that the blood vessel(s) collapsed from the tourniquet used to insert the IV. It will be reabsorbed by your body and disappear. It's no big deal...your circulatory system is highly redundant.

On rereading the question disregard the above...a month and a half is way too long. See a doctor immediately if you have experienced this for that long.

Everyone isn't the same, it is probably a side-effect, but VERY unlikely thats its something dangerous, otherwise you wouldn't have gotten it from an emergency room, talk to your doctor. You can always search your medication, and the side/adverse affects. Dont wait so long when something doesnt feel right, better safe then sorry. Good Luck=)

It is not easy to say what is going on here. I would be at the doctor's on Monday to get this looked at. If there is pain and swelling after this length of time, something needs looked at.

Staff infections are rampant in most hospitals along with various sundry other non-hygenic threats. Now you're going to have to pay for that doctor's appointment in order to fix what they did wrong. You're going to need to be on antibiotics. It's probably not serious but do get a prescription for an antibiotic.

you shouldn't have waited a month to call your doctor to begin with, and make sure you see someone first thing monday morning.. if you r doctor's office makes you wait for an appt. then you get your *** to an emergency room, if that's a clot it can make its way to your heart and kill you.. i hope i'm not scaring you more but you can't play games when it comes to things like that.
