Actually if you don't have the HD DVR yet, Comcast will set up everything for you. They supply you with a component cable to hook your HDTV up to the DVR. It's not worth it going out and getting an HDMI cord. You won't notice any difference. The currently models of set top boxes, even HD ones don't fully support a true HDMI connection. You won't see that for another year. Setting up an HDTV is really no different than a regular TV. The cable company should take care of it for you. Any settings with your resolution will be done on your DVR not your TV. I would suggest taking a good amount of time to set up your TV's settings though. Set your color, contrast, brightness and sharpness level to the optimum for your home light conditions.

Comcast HD DVR will be connecting to a HDTV via HDMI or component. HDMI being the higher quality. To receive surround sound, then you would be sending audio from the DVR to your AV receiver and sending video to your TV.
