The projections as of late have been along the lines of 2012 -2015 as the economic structure is being put into place as we speak. Things can happen at a more rapid rate than previous to 1995 because one of the main precursors to a "new republic" if you will is having computers in place and affordable for the general public. Once the general masses in India are wired and prepared to understand the rest of the world, the closer they will be to having a strong, "1st world" economy. There still will be however, specific regions along the China border that will still be just villages.....but they want to keep it that way.... especially considering what is hidden in the mountains along the border. My guess, 2015 if you want an exact year. be well, Jack

No year specifically, since India really only recognized its independence from British rule 60 years ago, and are still suffering the effects of colonialism throughout the country.

With a rapidly expanding middle class, it might not take nearly as long as the U.S. (one hundred odd years from colonialism to the industrial revolution).

With China holding its value against the dollar, it's currently not a stable market. The rupee is still not strong in the global market - yet.

I wouldn't put it past India to get there before 2050. India's pretty dirty right now, but economically they will be competing with us and eventually surpassing the US because of their deep workforce pool. However, because they are still ridden with HIV and AIDS, among other diseases, and have a massive rift between the upper class and the "untouchables" (the lowest caste of society in India), and the very poor hygiene, India definitely has more work to do.

I think there is no thumb of rule to predict this.

The development of the country mostly depend upon the policies framed by the government.

The biggest problem in our country is the Iliterates. they are in big numbers and it is very easy for the bad politicians to fool them easily by fake promises, announcing freebies and thereby catching hold of power.

Democracy succeeds only if most of the people in a country are educated.

If intelligent and educated people elect a person, perhaps the person in power would be the correct choice and he takes the right decision

If innocent and uneducated people elect a person, obviously it would be a bad choice and on most occasions they never elect a deserving candidate.

At the moment, the attitude of every politician is to catch hold of the power to make money for his own . so he is ready to do anything to achieve the same. To facilitate the same, most of our people, think about their short term benefits and easily get fooled. like they are keen to accept free gifts to cast their votes rather than asking for employment, good living conditions, good infrastructure for our betterment of our life. Also, most of our people are drowned in relegious rituals which serves nothing except that it creates conflicts among people and directing country to a diastrous path. there is another group of politicians, who simply say they are there to protect the interests of their relegion or caste and thereby get the votes of their respective country. Will the leaders elected this way, frame any policies to develop our country?

so, if you want to see the moment the india becoming a developed country, then it all depends upon the moment when India's educated are in majority and more in numbers.
for our people become more smarter, we should find ways to educate and civilize them, then i guess it is not a big deal to make india a developed nation.

My whole point, to see a developed india, most of the indians should be smartest. for that improving education and thereby eradicating illiteracy is the first thing that india has to concentrate!!
