It means to drink alcohol, but has a negative meaning of getting drunk on purpose in order to ignore your problems.

hitting the...means doing something so hard and fortright it is all emcompassing.
and what comes in a bottle? In most cases alcohol comes in a bottle.
Hitting the bottle means someone is drinking so much they themselves are becoming the bottle for the alcohol.
It is slang a little bit of word association.

It means getting drunk by drinking alcohol. You will learn about this throughout life. If you have questions never be afraid to ask an adult. Learn to never "hit the bottle" it only leads to trouble. Learn to have fun in other ways without involving drugs or alcohol. Kiddo...enjoy life and stay young as long as possible. Being a grown-up kinda sucks sometimes!
