Canada is a multi-cultural haven. We have a real mix of people from other cultures living freely here.

Of course we have our racists, too, but we will never have a government that condones hunting down "illegal aliens" and running them out of town, as the U.S. does.

I am including the site for the Mexican Consulates in Canada, because it seems to me that this would be the best place for you to start collecting information on immigration.

No, agreeing with Daisy in most part, the Canadians, especially Southern Ontario where we have the tobacco country, the Mexicans are invited to come up and make good money for their families during harvest time...have meet many of the being a bar owner in the area, but, for the other "illegal" immigrants, we have much better control over our employment situation and it is almost impossible to get hired, although they do slip through the cracks now and again. Also, they do not seem to try as much, and go through the right channels for landed immigrant, or citizanship in our country...we are biased, given certain situations, but on a much lower level, we are tolerant, but that may be changing every so slightly as the world IS getting smaller..Check out the Canada Immigration rules and you may be able to live in this country...good luck

It is easier for an illegal immigrant to get a job in the US than it is in Canada. It is easier for an illegal immigrant to get state benefits in the US than it is in Canada. It is easier for an illegal immigrant to get into the US in the first place than it is to get into Canada. Canada has a much stricter border control policy than the US. They also have much stricter rules on employing illegals. But from what I've seen, Canadians are also more accomodating to immigrants that the US, as long as you're there legally.

However, you will not be as likely to get things translated for you into Spanish, because unlike the US, Canada already has two official languages, English and French. You will have to learn one of those two (seems like you already know English) to communicate. Also, Japanese and Chinese would be useful languages to know if you move to Vancouver, British Columbia, as it is a popular destination for Asian immigrants.

I spent a summer vacation in Quebec after my freshman year of college. Although I am mostly fluent in French (I took 4 years in high school and 3 1/2 years in college), I didn't have to use it too much because most everyone there spoke English anyway. One language I DIDN'T hear there was Spanish, so be forewarned that it will be hard for you to find a translator.

I live in Canada, having immigrated here from the US many years ago. Canada is very welcoming to immigrants, but only to "legal" immigrants. Do not try to come to Canada illegally because you will not have as easy a time finding employment as you do in the US and you will not be entitled to any of the social benefits here unless you are a legal citizen. There is racism in Canada, also, but probably not to the extent that it is found in the US. To the person asking about Quebec, you can manage fine in Quebec as long as you know either French or English. Canada is bi-lingual, including in Quebec.

I would say Canadians are much more accepting of immigrants Mexican or others than Americans. We are a nation of immigrants and while some people don't like immigrants that cannot speak one of the national languages- english or french, most people are very accepting and friendly to immigrants.

As a Canadian who has visited the US on a number of occasions, I notice there is alot of ethnocentrism going on in the US.

I feel there is definately a division of people based on color and ethnicity in the US - you just don't feel that here. That being said, I am of anglo-saxon origin and I have not personally experienced racism myself, my son is bi-racial and the only "african" looking child in his school and so far has not experienced any racism to date.

I believe the Canadian government's approach to multi-culturalism has worked on the most part and that the immigration process to Canada is much easier than to get into the US.

Some people will treat any immigrant bad. Some people believe immigration needs to stop all together where some other believe it needs to be cut back. The one thing that majority does agree is that being illegal is not okay. Period. So if my being against illegals of any kind makes me a racist then I guess I am.
It doesn't matter where you go there will always be racist.

Yes, but not as bad as Americans. The Canadians although are a bit more upfront about it. I can't believe how open they were that they hated Mexicans. I think there is a financial incentive for them to move to Canada, and much better opportunities, though.

sadly theres always going to be racist people where ever you go...i do know that canada is tolerant of different races because it is a melting pot and there are alot of different cultures. They are more open-minded then americans. not to mention canada is beautiful but there are plenty of american cities that are completely diverse.

My brother in law and his wife moved to Canada from Mexico City.....THEY love it.....It was much easier to gain residency there, than in the US.....I think you would love it, the only reason I don't move there is because I don't like the COLD! Otherwise, my hubby and I would seriously consider moving there....Best of luck!
