The belief of Christians is that we are eternal beings. We live on this Earth for a short period of time. When we "die", who we are either goes to Heaven (if we have accepted Christ as our Savior) or we go to Hell (which is eternal separation from EVERYTHING and EVERYONE).
This is a rather simplistic answer, but I hope it helps you move forward in your quest for knowledge of what happens after this life.

Consider Eccl 9:5, and 10. Ps 146:3. Gen 2:7 also says that you are a soul, not that you have a soul, compare 1 Peter 3:20. All are sleeping in Death awaiting resurrection. John 5:28 and 29. Look at John 11:1-53 and you will see the first hand experience of Laz'arus and notice no tails of an afterlife. Christian love, Bill

There is no armageddon or apocalypse, st john was describing the fall of rome in symbolic terms (revelations)
The soul usually stands their looking at the body in shock that it is still here. Then a companion (angel guide) helps it go to its purification place..... this is a place where its whole life and decisions will be re-experienced and felt, this is mostly emotional. Then after purfication there are many things it can choose to do, but usually they pick a new body and family,,
Now the concept of ghosts are usually not souls they are usually deposits of strong emotion,,,which we can feel as a cold presence.
A ghost will often be a very negative soul often a suicide or criminal type person that is maddened by their guilt and refuses to leave without fixing their mistakes. This is temporary...and rare...

There have been studies done on people who die. Right after death their weight decreases by 3-4 ounces. They have proven that it's not fluids leaving the body or any of those kinds of things. Some believe that the weight loss is when the soul leaves the body.
I believe the soul goes to it's final resting place, either Heaven or hell. There is a waiting place called Hades and their will be a final judgment day. But God is out of the realm of time, so it all happens at the same time.
I want to be cremated and have my ashes either buried or put in a niche, not in a mausoleum. I believe in ashes to ashes and dust to dust. I do want a place where my loved ones feel free to come talk to me.

Back where it came from, I imagine.
Is the Earth an entity? Would the life force of the planet encompass and assimilate the souls of the dying and dead? Is that what you mean? Or is the purpose of the soul after dead more...forceful than that? Hmm. I remember coming to this planet as a soul, as a being of pure energy and mature consciousness, connected in a very real way to the people I was leaving behind. I think that I will one day return to those three people. I don't know who they were, but they were dressed like Carmelite monks, and they were closer to me in friendship than any I've encountered here. 'Cept maybe my mom and my husband.

Genesis 2:7 says, "and the man came to be a living soul". It does not say he had a soul, it says he is a soul. So, if the man dies, the soul dies because he is the soul. The only time it talks about having a soul is when it is talking about the life that a person has. Again, the life no longer exists when the person dies.

"APART FROM THE BODY, FACE TO FACE WITH THE LORD". " JESUS SAID, THIS DAY YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE." Jesus said that to one of the two thieves on the cross at his crucifixion. When you die you will go to either Heaven or Torments. In the Old Testament there is the story of Lazarus and the rich man, Lazarus was in paradise, and the rich man was in torments. Since you care enough to ask, I feel that you are a believer, So for you it will be paradise. But there is no waiting, it is like a light switch being turned off and quickly back on again. But this time it will never turn off again. If you want more information write me at aflacbigspring@yahoo.com

The apostle Paul says, when wavering between wanting to go to be with the Lord and wanting to stay on earth to accomplish things for God "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake" (Philippians 1:23,24)
The Bible makes it very clear that man is an immortal spirit being who possesses a soul. When one dies his spirit will depart to one of 2 destinies - either it will ascend into the heaven of God to be with Him and His holy saints and angels, or the spirit will descend into the lower parts of the earth to await the great white throne judgment of God. Only Jesus Christ can save us from this latter fate.

Gen 2:7 we are the soul! It is the breath of live, or spirit that returns to God upon our death. The rest of us, our bodies return to dust, and our thoughts and desires, our hatreds and our loves, etc. ceases to exist.
