This topic has come up before but there didn't seem to be any replies with solid evidence that cats do indeed choke or bleed to death on chicken (poultry) bones. I'm looking for first-hand accounts only! Please no replies with advice you have merely heard from others (for example, please no "don't feed your cat chicken bones - they'll choke/bleed to death on the splinters", etc... unless you have first hand evidence that they do indeed choke/bleed to death). By the way, if you have witnessed such an awful event, was the cat rescued and how? Thanks for your replies!!

My cats kill and eat birds all the time no I have never seen them chock or bleed. When you cook bones they become brittle that is why people get worried I try not to feed them cooked bones but again the kill and eat birds on daily bases never lost one to death by bird bone.

My dog got hold of a chicken bone and began to choke. I had to reach into his throat and pull out the splinters. It was terrifying.

I watched a dog choke and gag and die from getting chicken bone splinters. The splinters got into the underside of it's tongue and made the tongue swell up.

Its only cooked poultry bones that splinter, raw bones are ok. But, just because something can happen doesn't mean it will.

i pass to pass with out. Cats should not be fed something different than cat food and doubtless, for exterior cats, small products of meat. Cat mouths are smaller than dogs, and are consequently greater in all likelihood to choke.

In all my experience I have never seen bones be enough to do in a feline; I've always had to feed them something decidedly more volatile.

it is ok for cats to have chicken bones because they take their time with it......dogs shouldnt have them though, they will swallow it without chewing it properly and it could harm their stomachs
