Why do christians say Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and three days later he was resurrected on Easter Sunday? Isn't Monday three days past Friday?

A lot of members of my Fan Club say that "in jewish tradition any part of "a day" counts as a full day." Which is fine and dandy. Except that if you read the bible itself it says I was dead for "three days and three nights" which rules that bit out.

What can I say. The people who wrote the NT were...how to say ot-nay oo-tay ight-bray when it comes to math. :)

That is because they do not study! John 19:31,' For that sabbath day was an high sabbath.' On that year the high sabbath (which was treated the same as the weekly sabbath) fell on a Friday. Jesus said that He would spend three days and three nights in the grave, just like Johna spent three days and three nights in the belly of a fish )Mat 12:40). John 20:1 Jesus was already resurrected when on the first day while it was yet dark, Marry came to the sepulcher. Using the Hebrew system of days, which they have always used (Gen 1:5), the night comes before the day, so that Sunday night comes before Sunday day. Let us count Backwards and see when it was Jesus was killed. Sunday night (our Saturday night), Saturday, Saturday night (our Friday night), Friday, Friday night ( our Thursday night), Thursday. There you see Three Days and Three Nights. Jesus was killed on Thursday, not Friday. It helps when one studies.
Jesus was both born and killed on the Passover, Not Easter! Easter is the celebration of the death of Tammuz!

in the previous Jesus got here interior the flesh, we are instructed that sinners who repented have been saved by using religion interior the bogus slayed animal sacrifices defined by using God. and prefer those of on the instant, they had to end sinning (that's what repenting ability). the actually atonement, whether, happened with suited timing while Jesus grew to grow to be the perfect sacrifice those animals prefigured. So in the previous Jesus got here, the human beings regarded forward to the pass on the same time as those after, seem back to the atonement on the pass. consequently, in a fashion, you're dazzling: that's the same for people who repent of their sins. for people who do not, there is not any sacrifice or heaven. It rather does not have mattered while God might have chosen to deliver Jesus to earth yet being gracious as he's, He gave mankind all the prophecies mandatory to help guy understand the actual Messiah and tutor, as quickly as returned, that God retains His supplies related to salvation and judgments. He could not have made those any clearer.

It would help if 'Laptop Jesus' had quoted the verse/s he was eferring to1 (Or, maybe 'he' is a 'she' and it's an 'equal-opportunity' Goddess-hood s/he represents!)
But it is accepted Jesus died and was in the tomb Friday, Saturday and some part of Sunday morning = "three days", in ot 72 hours.
This was NOT a Roman Catholic or Roman Empire view - it emerged before the "Papacy"/RC Church, as such, became what we know today and before Roman Empire was made "Christian"! by conatantine!

only if you think in Western terms , e.g. a 'day' = 24 hours
- in eastern thought - Friday was counted as the first day,
saturday was day 2 = Sunday was day 3

Jesus may have been 'buried' less than 36 hours
in Western thought less than 2 days - BUT covering a three day span

3 days is correct!

Merry Christmas

I think the gospels say, "on the third day." That makes some say three days. but of course your right. That actually makes it just two.

i dont know...
i mean there's proof that there was a "Jesus" but there is no proof of god nor that jesus was a prophet. i'm a scientific person, actual solid proof is what's important in this case. I believe that jesus was just a person who liked to trick alot of people. what can i say?
In all honesty i'm Buddhist, not even a christian. i used to be, but then i realized the truth.
