There's so much that can go south in a relationship that when it's over it's bad news all around but especially if its in any way abusive you've got to walk - if not run away.

If it's physically or psychologically abusive you may want to seek counseling just to keep yourself on an even keel and start to work out any bugs you may have developed out.

If you have some time, get your affairs in order, if you're living together get your important stuff out first then slowly get your stuff organized , be prepared to cut your losses if needs be, be prepared to separate any joint accounts etc.

Its important to be fair. Be honest but get out if you must. I think at some point, you just get up and walk out the door.

Also talk to a friend or two and get their take you probably have special circumstances you need to consider that you need to talk to about this stuff. There are issues you may need a reality check on.

Now the complication factor is if there are kids involved, that's where you definitely need to recruit family and friends to work through the situation and even when the end comes, work with your partner on being as realistic and amicable as possible. If that's not possible then know you are as prepared as possible otherwise.

Ok first of all do not apologize any more! You did nothing wrong. Keep yourself busy! Do anything to keep your mind off of him, this sounds so easy! It is very hard but keeping busy really really helps. When you talk to him just tell him that you really need to talk to him sometimes because you just can't "quit" him coldturkey. After 8 years, talking to him is something you "need" to do. So it is important to let him know that you will need to talk to him some. Let him call you. I found it was easy to talk at the end of the day. Talk about your day at work, etc. Don't push it! He knows you love him. I know you have heard this 5 million times in the last 2 months, but if he loves you back you will know it. Just take it easy and use this time for you!

Pack up and leave. Once you leave then you can worry about the emotional roller coaster you will go through. But leaving is the first step.

explain to the person you are moving on and then do it. If they want a reason tell them the truth but do not let them talk you out of it.
