Its one thing to say it, its another to show it with behavior that would be unselfish. Ask him to sacrafice something small for your relationship and see how he responds. If he flipps out it means hes selfish or does not love you. If he agrees to the sacrafice even if he doesnt agree He probably loves you...

they might know what your favorite things are like favorite book, ice cream...if you mentioned it
or if they act different around you than with other people
or if they ask you questions that they normally wouldn't ask ppl
or maybe they seem kind of awkward around you like they don't know what to say
