We live in Silver Spring, MD, near DC. We love ethnic food - but also simple steaks and seafood. I'd like to find a place with ambiance and panache. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you get the feeling that most people on here are teenagers? Regardless, I will make a couple of recommendations. One of my all time favorites is the District Chop House near Verizon Center. Its was voted best restaurant in DC in 2003 I think. You can dress it up or down in there, the food is awesome plus its a microbrewery too! Some cool bars are right up the street about 2 blocks. That takes me to my next suggestion.... Fado's Irish Pub. If you like Irish pubs you have to check this place out!! Its very authentic looking inside and full of decor to look at.... its like a museum!! Lots of murals and faux painting and great achitectural details! Great food, great beer, service is awesome and it a big place too! If you've never been too Red Sage, then you should go soon! I just heard that they are being forced out by a greedy landlord soon but its truly a classy eclectic upscale restaurant to visit! You won't be dissapointed!! Good luck!! Happy Bday! =0)~

For a group, I recommend Guapos Mexican Cuisine, at 4515 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016, (202) 686-3588. Two parking garages within a block (free with purchase from appropriate store, but not the restaurant), or a Metro stop across the street. Good food, drinks, crowd, and a great friendly staff, make this Guapos a great value. Have read poor reviews of other locations, but this one is very good for a group of friends or family. Mama Ayesha's in Adams Morgan. It's fabulous North African/Middle Eastern food, beautifully decorated, great service, relaxed atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

I recommend the Prime Rib.
I always go to the one in Baltimore, never been to the one in DC.
Best steakhouse around...
