confession is nonsense made up by the church

I do it everyday in my prayers directly to God.

If you're asking me about going to a priest, I did that ONCE 25 years ago. I was in the process of converting to Catholicism getting married as a young 22 year old. Had to go as part of the whole process. It literally sickened me to my stomach to do a confession to a priest. It felt so fake, and so contrived, I couldn't come to terms with it whatosever. And not because I was ashamed or embarrassed about confessing in front of a priest. I'm one of the most open people you'll ever meet, I tell everybody, everything. But quite honestly, it just felt "wrong" and I have never felt further AWAY from God than I did at that very moment in front of that priest. I promised the Lord that I would never do that again and instead come only directly to HIM. And for me, how ironic, because there I was CONVERTING to Catholicism (something I had always wanted to do) and it was the very thing that started me re-evaluating the whole church and ultimately sent me packing. I am a born again Christian, attend church regularly and pray and confess only to my Lord and Saviour, one on one, as it was always meant to be.

Oh, thanks for reminding me that I have to call my priest. I go twice a year, Lent and Advent. I am an Episcopalian. RC's go more often. If I did something really terrible I would go then too. Most of the time it is covered by the General confession that is part of the Eucharist. All of you folks that say we should only confess to God alone, are you listening? Episcopalian do it both ways and it is up to the person. I do it with my confessor at least twice a year as part of a spiritual discipline. Otherwise it is to God alone in the Eucharist.

I go to Confession four times a year: Ash Wednesday, Psalm Sunday, the First Sunday of Advent, and the Third Sunday of Advent... so last week.

I went once when I was 10. I was 10, I hadn't done anything wrong (I was a good child) but the priest kept insisting I must have done something, so I made something up about yelling at my younger sister, and he told me to go pray as a result. I remember feeling really bad about having to pray even though I didn't do anything actually, but being told that I was being watched. Never went back and it kinda solidified my whole idea that there wasn't really a god if he felt the need to make young kids feel guilty for no reason.

I'm Protestant so I don't go to confession. I think it's good to confess but it's not necessary. Faith alone will save you. Confession is a way of remembering it.

An hour ago....I dont use a priest, I talk to the Father in Jesus/Yeshua's name, like the Bible says. Not as the CAtholic church says.

Read 1 Peter 2:9.....you are a priest and a king! Get outta religious bondage brother!

The last time I had an over-riding guilt hanging on my head.

Whether you believe in the divine aspects of it or not, I think it can help to talk it over with someone.

The priest was free, the shrinks are not.

I've never been to confession. Why, if god is omnipotent, do I need to say out loud that I'm sorry? God should already know that I am sincerly sorry by seeing what's in my heart and soul.
