I used to be on Effexor XR, although I was actually taking it for migraines, not to make me happier, so I'm not a lot of help there. I just want to warn you that Effexor is really really addictive. I was only on a low dose (75 mg a day) and it took me over two years to wean myself off of it. Do some research on the medication first and make sure you're not getting into something that will be really hard and painful to get out of. Also make sure you have a doctor who cares enough about you to prescribe the right thing for you, and even consider getting a second opinion. Any doctor I talked to after I'd started the Effexor told me he or she would most definitely NOT have put me on that. But by then I was addicted and it was too late.

It depends on what you need the pill for. You only need the SSRI's if you are depressed or have panic attacks. Have you been diagnosed with a disorder or are you just feeling blue?

FYI St. John's Wort is not a good idea. It has some of the same chemicals that the SSRI drugs have in it. I have no clue why people keep recommending it.

Paxil. Well actuly I've lost count of all the different ones, they had nasty side effects that are supposed to go away after a few weeks but I am too impatient so I quit them. Paxil is what I take now and it works great! Actuly Therapy, excerscize, blah, blah, blah.... is best but I tried many times and all it seemed was to increase the "bad moods".

Anything chemical that you take is begging for an addiction. Try something natural that has worked for me. It is called St. John's Wort. It is a natural herb that acts as a positive mood enhancer.

Beware, though, if you are on the pill or any other birth-control therapy, St. John's Wort will reduce the effectiveness of your birth-control.

Have taken a few before...Lexapro was the best results for me. I tried the Effexor for about a week and felt out of sorts completely. I have read a lot about how that is a horrible one to come off of....which is scary. Not for me.

Yep, I take Zoloft. It's not so much a happy pill for me as a "not feel crappy" pill. Has made a marked difference in my quality of life.

Wellbutrin XL worked good. Zoloft caused me to attempt suicide. But many drugs have different effects on people, if that makes sense, its late and my brain is slowing down.

Xanex - it takes the edge off pretty well and can be used for sleep, too. But it can get addictive.

I've taken Effexor and Lexapro.

The latter worked.

Effexor made it worse, though for someone else it could be a godsend.
