How do you know if the author or speaker is leaving out information on a subject or topic?

You don't, unless you have knowledge about the topic yourself or you do some research and see if there is anything he/she may have left out. It does happen on occasion.

You don't unless you have read his or her materials. Or have the exact knowledge of their writings.
