as an EXISTENTIALIST weak atheist, I take the following position on religion:
The question of whether or not God exists is moot, we do not have the tools to discover the answer. What is important is what impact faith in God has on mankind. Since religion and faith in God have an overall positive impact on society (and it is getting harder and harder to believe so) religion and faith in God are positive things and should remain a part of our society

Without. Religion has a demonstrably negative impact on society and civilization as a whole. Studies have shown that the more religious an area, the higher the crime rate. Not to mention that every war currently being waged has religion as its core cause.

If you want a different opinion, ask all the people who have died in Palestine, Israel, Iraq, (oh that's right, you can't).

I think we all need something. Alone without God is way too empty and scary. God of our choosing too. As far as an organized religion, that needs defining more.

Just reading New York low crime???? hahahahahahahahahha Cows fly too , yes?

The least religious societies (northern Europe) are among the least violent. Religious societies are often among the most violent.

There are more religious people in prisons than atheists in prisons (as expressed in the percentages of the general population).

It has no bearing on nothing.

Religion and poltics are labels people use to define themselves.

A blank sheet of paper says nothing.

The reality is that there WILL BE many false gods to deceive us and distract us from the love and mercy of the one true God, and from salvation thru His Son, Jesus.

Yes. Look at "postChristian" parts of Europe, like Sweden. Very low crime. Look at the Bible Belt -- very high crime. New York, very non-religious place? Low crime. etc etc etc.
