He is not in prison, never has been, what I mean is having a judge marry us in a courtroom instead of a church

This answer comes from a retired judge who has performed weddings in his courtroom. First, I performed the wedding in chambers...my office located just off the courtroom. The ceremony was brief, the audience only close family members and it took about 5 minutes. The parties were both friends. I did this twice. No music, no flowers, nothing fancy. However, most judges pretty well control their own courtroom and if the judge will go along with it I don't see why you can't have anything you want consistent with the space available and any security precautions. Good luck and have fun.

I also had a courtroom wedding. I was 100% fine with it. No music, no decorations. Then we had a reception. No the justice of the peace wrote vows especially for us. It is very plain, do it if your comfortable with it. It's not about the wedding people, it's about the relationship and VOWS that you took. That's exactly why divorce rate is so high in this country!!!
I've been with my husband for 7 years and married for 2 +1/2 years.

It depends on the court. Call and talk to the clerk and ask about being married by the justice of the peace. Usually it's a short ceremony held in a courtroom so decorating would depend on what was going on in the courtroom during that day. You can write your own vows though.

Not a courtroom wedding, but one done by a justice of the peace. He made sure we were serious about the vows we were to take (we've been married over 14 years now). Yes we were allowed to choose our own music, decorations and vows. We had our wedding held on a foot bridge to "bridge the gap" from the past to the present which was very symbolic for us.

Pick a local wedding chapel or a garden. With a little research, you can find something beautiful! I know you said no cheesy vegas wedding, but there are some places that are not cheesy at all. You can get married in vegas at the top of the eiffel tower. I know a girl that got married there and the pictures are GORGEOUS. I know that vegas has a certain stigma about it, but if you di it right, it can be very tasteful. Also in vegas the Wynn has a VERY VERY pretty wedding location. It is a bit pricey though. Any hotel there has some very upscale wedding packages in which to choose from.

I haven't had a courtroom wedding, but I would definitely consider it if my fiancee's parents weren't coming in from out of town. It's not so much the ceremony that matters but your commitment to each other.

Anyone who doesn't understand or is opposed is too superficial to deserve getting married in the first place. Yes, weddings are special but what matters most is the marriage, not the ceremony.

There is an old saying that says " marriage before a judge end before a judge" 80% of these fail, call probate court in your county and ask for a list of ministers most of these take an offering and will do your wedding your way. Ask the minister questions and see which one suits you. Marriage is a special time make it that!!!
If you lived in my area I would do it. Most ministers work for God and besides a prayer will do it your way, but make sure you get the right minister most will do it outside a church (I.E. God is everywhere) but check.
God Bless

No my parents got married in a court room. It was very plain, straight to the point. No music, no decorations, no own vows. I guess you can do all that stuff at your reception.
