I heard that you can fit larger amounts of data on a CD by changing the burn speed. Can I burn a 698 MB Linux ISO onto a 650 MB CD-Rom. If so, what program/how do I do it?

Sampling rate change. I also use NERO and it actually shows you graphically where you are in relation to the file size and disk capacity. It will even ask if you want to try and burn the extra data and show you in shades of red how far over the allowable space you may be. It is limited but handy if you have just a little over and don't really want to start another disk for just another item file or song. Give it a try. Disks are inexpensive so keep notes of what you are doing and in just a couple of times aborting a burn session you should be able to tell the limits of your transfer attempts and adjust settings the best you can. There are different type disks for different media so check labels on Cd's also.

The speed has nothing to do with it, it's the compression. To make it simple, buy a 700 Mb or larger Blank CD. They're worth around a buck apiece!

Programs such as nero (www.nero.com) allows overburning, or burning past the "safety margin" on the disc.
