We are going to give the Iraqis the facts of life.
We are going to help them get their military up to providing basic security.
We went in there with lies and fabrications as a justification for invasion so we owe something to the Iraqi people.
But we aren't going to be there very much longer.
People are fed up with Dubyas Iraqi freedom and Iraqi democracy BS.

Just my opinion but my feeling all along has been that it took an absolute b*stard like Saddam H. to keep the less civilised people in order and by removing him the country seems to be heading for civil war.

I'd also heard the Vietnam exit wasn't graceful and expect the Iraq insurgent elements will do the "lets chase 'em out the country" kind of thing to make it look like they "won". I'd imagine even if the exit was well done the country will fall apart again as islamic fundamentalists target those upholding the new establishment.

Big up to the US and Brit guys out there tho - not a job I'd want to do.

I believe we're not.

Iraq is one independent nation, unlike Vietnam. We've already helped establish a new government there that we can work with, and a security/defense force. We can continue to operate in Iraq on a much smaller scale than we are today, and it's very much a possibility that we will do so, and it will be more graceful than Vietnam.

The problem with Vietnam is that it were two nations fighting each other for control of the one country. We eventually pulled out of there due to its length, and because of that, the communist nation managed to overtake and unite the southern nation with itself.

With Iraq, the enemy doesn't come from external forces, but internal ones that we can work together on eliminating with the Iraqi government.

The US and UK won't be leaving Iraq for years yet. The mess is our doing. I actually think the Iraq mess is actually part of the Neocon plan to justify our continued occupation.

Our mission objective is to arm and train the Iraqi's before any exit is possible.

Before the invasion, Iraq was weak, there were no terrorists, there was no WMD. There were no radical warlords. It was secular, It was no threat at all.

What is the motto for leaving? It's "When they stand-up, we'll sit down"

That means we'll leave when Iraq has a well armed and trained fighting force

So we went into a weak, unarmed, harmless secular nation.

We'll leave when it's a strong, well armed, bitterly angry, radical religious, tribal nation seeking revenge for the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi's killed by our war.

Isn't that back-to-front? Invade a weak nation that has no problem with us, then make them hate us, arm them, train them, put radical anti-American warlords in power and go home.

Some economists predict a US Dollar collapse & American economic crash. Communist China own about a third of the USA economy already, so I suspect a total collapse of the US will force the US to exit Iraq.

The funny thing is America was winning Vietnam and if we fought longer would would've came out the winners. Even the general of the Vietcong said in his biography that America would of won the war if they kept fighting, but because the will of the people to fight was weakened by the propaganda. The communists realize they won because they won the psychological war. Its the same strategy of the Muslim extremists. They want to bleed us out as long as they can so we get tired of the war and just give up. Each time that happens they see it as a victory. The way the media acts nowadays with their "Fair and Balanced" reporting it isn't very hard to get their propaganda to the American people. Its like the people running the country have no knowledge about war throughout history. We could win but we need to do what is necessary to win and if that includes flattening cities of "insurgent" strong holds then we must do it. You either fight a war all the way or you don't fight at all.

are you suggesting we left gracefully in vietnam? No is the answer. In an all out fight we will steamroll any attacker that tries to touch our boys as they leave. If you could get all the insurgents to attack at once, the war would be over that quick. That will probly happen on the day we leave (which is coming soon, thank GOD!!!) Unfortunately ins. have never felt what a b-52 could do, or dummy bombs on large ambush crews, or even helis from 600 meters away (well out for an ak or an rpg) attacking the leaving convoy would be a really bad idea. I think once we leave Iraq will do nothing but get better (as we will take out the relgious and pride aspect of it the ins. will lose interst.) That is my pred.

the jihadhist cranks are syrian and iranian. They spill over the border everyday into iraq, trained in syria , funding, weapons and explosives supplied by iran.
The western public is often misinformed if they beleive it is the iraqi ppl who are the insurgents.
The only way forward is a land invasion of iran. There will be no other islamic fundamentalist regime capable of supplying and funding terrorist activity on the scale that we see now.
If we back down now , the enemy will claim victory and will be revitalised.
Islamic fundamentalism cannot be met with surrender or negotiation. They are no partner for peace. The conflict between palestine and israel is encouraged by syria and iran.the palestinians are used as pawns because they have an element of global sympathy while at the same time do the hateful work of the syrians.
We must eradicate the disease ,not shy from it.The public need to open their eyes and not jump on the blinkered leftist bandwagon, or it will come back to haunt you.

There is no way we can pull out with grace. Even if we withdraw on good terms with the Iraqi government.., the terrorists will start their propaganda on how they defeated the mighty Americans and use this angle to recruit new members to their cause.

Kind of like when Israel withdrew from Lebanon due to pressure from the International community and having received promises to have the kidnapped soldiers returned....., Israel backed off, Hamas and the other terror groups started their "We defeated Israel! Join us - our enemies fear us" - AND - to add heartache to misery.., the kidnapped Israeli Soldiers have not been returned despite Israel returning the captured enemy fighters in good faith.

And now? The International community is STILL on Israel as if they are the trouble makers. America can expect no better treatment. No exit we make in Iraq will be a good one. Personally I am afraid the insurgents will go on a blood hunt, killing and torturing anyone even remotely suspected of supporting the Americans.

The Americans are very much engrossed with Iraq and their exit is inevitable but how can they exit gracefully when they have not established a supposed to be good government.

Our final exit in Vietnam was not so graceful . We are sucked in quite deeply in Iraq too and there are no good options and nor is there a military solution.

Exited gracefully from Vietnam??????
You gotta be kidding-where did you study history?
America will suffer inevitable defeat in Iraq-just like they did in Vietnam and if you think napalming Saigon and Hanoi was a graceful retreat then no wonder your country is so universally detested outside your borders!!
