I had heard my mother and grandmother talk about a love so deep for your child that you would die for them in an instant... I didn't understand that love until I had my own children... I always thought my mother and grandmother were using an analogy or a play on words but they were serious the love for your child is so deep you would die for them....
While I love my husband dearly and as deeply as I love my children its a different kind of love... Yes if it came down to it I would die for my husband to save him but there would be a moment of hesitation ... Not with the children I wouldnt hesitate at all..
It surprised me, shocked me and scared me a little to love someone so much....

I hear what you are saying. I loved my husband when we married then along came our firstborn, a son and I cannot say how much love I had for him. There were times I was honestly surprised to see babies younger than him because I felt there could not be any other children in the world! The love I felt for my husband, now ex, has changed, but the love I feel for my sons is just a strong and unconditional as the day they were born. I think it has to do with the fact that their very existence depends on you. What you do and how you treat them now will affect their entire lives, so just keep loving her and love her mom too! for not being selfish and wanting to bring this child into your family.

I wasn't surprised how much I loved my children but maybe it's different for men and women.
I think that the love for your child is an extension of the the love for your spouse. The marriage is the first and most important relationship (without it there wouldn't be kids) and the love you share with your spouse extends out into your love of your children.
Congrats on your wonderful family!

I think I was a little surprised...I never thought I would love anyone as much as I love my husband, but my daughter is the world to me. You sound like a great dad! Congrats on your daughter, she's a cutie.

No its not just you. I was with my husband for 7 years before I had my son. After I had my son I loved him more then anyone. The love you have for you spouse and your children differ in a huge way. You can fall out of love with your spouse but never with your child.

I love my husband dearly, and I always will.... but the first time I saw our daughter on the ultrasound, I was head over heels. I think about her all the time, talk to her all the time and am thrilled to death everytime I feel a little kick. It really amazed me how strongly I could feel about someone who hasn't even been born yet. And I am sure it only gets stronger from there.

This world honeslty needs more parents like you. I never really knew my father. He cheated on my mother and left us when I was one month old. I didn't see him again until I was 11 years old. The way you love your daughter is seriously going to have a huge impact on how she views you as she gets older. Always cherish her. I wish you the best. ^_^
