If there is a Whole Foods Market in your area, they have a rather large selection of olives that you can check out.

Maybe in Greece right now or Italy, but any where else I doubt it. Look olives get ripe they have to be picked and pickled right away. Or they are pressed to make oil. They do not hold and you can not eat them unless they are processed. They are uneatable unless they are soaked in a brine water for weeks and then canned in a salty brine to preserve. So you will not find fresh olives except on my trees right now. Want to help me pick. It is cold and rainy, not fun picking olives, no fun at all.

You will almost certainly have to find a grower to get "fresh" olives. They don't ship well, spoil when damaged and leak terribly.
Also, the processing of olives is something that most people simply don't get involved in. It's hard!
After that, your local deli or ethnic food market (greek, sicilian, italian, spanish, etc.)is probably going to be the best source.
Best wishes!

"Fresh olives" are never sold. Olives off the tree are bitter and inedible. For a "new" olive, check a local ethnic market. They often have many different kinds that are cured in different ways.

I've seen it in Farmers market out in California. I saw my mother buy a bag full and asked her why. She was going to make soup??!! I told them it tasted nasty, so don't eat it and she shrugged her shoulder. 10 minutes latter she made a sour face. Please what ever you do, don't eat one. I think you could pick some or find some growers out in california. You are probably out of luck if your not close to an area that grows it.
