Just have faith, pray, and talk to god. You don't need a church.

Larger christian churches are usually pro-feminist pro-female, and anti-male. Small churches are probably somewhat more balanced towards the center. Political views in churches are really not known. When a church suggests voting for Bush, what they are really saying is the fact that most churches are very capitalistic and mostly hold capitalistic views. Remember, Dems and Reps are both neo-capitalists. "Well, Bush is anti-gay and anti-abortion". Do you know of a church that wouldn't take in a woman that is having an abortion, or a gay that is getting married in civil court? Churches love those people! Besides, they have money too! Of course it would not be religiously correct to endorse such agendas in a church, so thus another hypocracy in the name of christian love. If a church endorses Kerry, and promotes abortion, gay rights, feminist special interest groups, legalization of marijuana, oblishment of fathers rights to be custodial parents for their children, feels that single mothers should not be financially responsable for thier children equally as fathers should be, does not believe in male leadership, then why even go to church?
As far as a church in westernized societies, that literaly follow Christ and His teachings, you would probably have better luck going out and playing the lottery. The odds of a real Christian church existing in todays society are probably worse than winning the jackpot. If you must go to church, start with the small churches.
We need to get new bibles, one for the neo-cons, one for the neo-libs, one for the centrists, and one for the old traditional single white woman hating males that are still alive or not thrown in prison for their sexist beliefs. Oh, I forgot..... we already have that one.

Jehovah's Witnesses adhear to the Bible for all matters. We are not political in anyway (Jesus says that his followers would be "no part of the world.") Some might consider us sexist because we listen to what Paul said at 1st Timothy 2:12, which states: “I do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man.” However we also believe in treating our women with love and kindness which would be in accord with what is written at Ephesians 5:25 "Husbands, continue loving YOUR wives, just as the Christ also loved the congregation and delivered up himself for it."

...We attend an independent Baptist church, which is really more like an independent Bible church.
...I have never heard of Republican churches - ours isn't - we are encouraged to vote, but not told how to vote.
...Our church is not sexist, either - I am not sure what you mean by that - in our church, men and women follow the Lord's leading and the roles He gives them.
...You might ask yourself - what if one party favors biblical principles more than another, and God is leading you to vote that way - will you obey Him?
...What if He leads you to serve in your church, in ways that the Bible directs each gender? Are you willing to obey, to deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him?
...Ask God to lead you to a church that honors Jesus as Lord, and the Bible as the authority - if they are doing that, then much of the rest will be right.

Please go to THE CHURCH OF "JESUS CHRIST" of Latter-day Saints. Visit www.lds.org to find more information. Trust me, im a member of this church! it works! you need to find the church that follows everything the Bible states: here are the 17 points of the true church, according to the Bible:
1. Christ organised the church (Eph. 4:11-14)
2. The true church must bear the name of Jesus Christ (Eph. 5:23)
3. The true church must have a foundation of apostles and prophets. (Eph. 2:19-20)
4. The true church must have the same organisation as Christ's church. (Eph. 4:11-14)
5. The true church must claim divine authority. (Heb. 5:4-10)
6. The true church must have no paid ministry. (Isa. 45:13; 1Peter 5:2)
7. The true church must baptise by immersion. (Matt. 3:13-16)
8. The true church must bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. (Acts 8:14-17)
9. The true church must practice divine healing. (Mark 3:14-15)
10. The true church must teach that God and Jesus are separate and distinct individuals. (John 17:11; John 20:17)
11. The true church must teach that God and Jesus Christ have bodies of flesh and bone. (Luke 24:36-39; Acts 1:9-11)
12. The officers must be called by God. (Heb. 5:4; Exodus 28:1; Exodus 40:13-16)
13. The true church must claim revelation from God. (Amos 3:7)
14. The true church must be a missionary church. (Matt. 28:19-20)
15. The true church must be a restored church. (Acts 3:19-20)
16. The true church must practice baptism for the dead. (1Cor. 15:16,29)
17. By their fruits ye shall know them. (Matt. 7:20)

WHY ARE THESE THINGS IMPORTANT? HEBREWS 13:8

This is a post I made on beliefnet on how to find a progressive church:

I'm posting this here so that I can link to it when people ask how to find a progressive church :-)

My first suggestion would be to search the Affiliates of The Center for Progressive Christianity (www.tcpc.org). It is an umbrella organization of progressive Christian churches that unite around a statement called the 8 points, which includes gender equality and caring for the vulnerable.

If you cannot find a church near you that you are comfortable with, you have to search on a church-by-church basis.

Take advantage of their websites. A neutral website means they could be progressive. Look for key phrases like "Bible-based" which is code for "Biblical literalists." Look through their links! Keep in mind that being open to gays and lesbians (GLBT) is a good indicator of being progressive, but not a definite sign! Code for being open to GLBTs is "More Light" in the PCUSA, "Dignity" in the ECUSA, "Reconciling in Christ" in the ELCA, and "ONA" or "Open and Affirming" in the UCC.

Email the pastor and be straightforward about what you are looking for - at best they will welcome you or tell you where to look, at worst you get a nasty email that you can delete.

Finally, ask around - email TCPC churches closer to you for recommendations, email nearby TCPC individual affiliates, ask on progressive Christian boards online, and scan the blogs of the Progressive Christian Bloggers Network.

The 7 mainline Protestant denominations to look at:

1) United Church of Christ (UCC)
2) Christian Church - Disciples of Christ (DOC)
3) Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A. (PCUSA)
4) Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA)
5) American Baptist Church (ABC)
6) United Methodist Church (UMC)
7) Episcopalian Church of the U.S.A. (ECUSA)

You can also look at break-aways of more conservative denominations:
8) Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints (RLDS) now called Community of Christ Church
9) Independent Catholic movements, such as the Liberal Catholic Church and the Catholic Church of Antioch.

And look at other denominations as well:
10) Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) - a denomination organized for GLBTs, and is about 70% GLBT. Keep in mind that many are conservative since they are populated by outcast GLBTs from conservative denominations.
11) Unitarian Universalists (UU) - are not only Christian; a lot will welcome Christians and some are anti-Christian.
12) Quakers - Friends General Conference (FGC) is liberal and not only Christian, Friends United Meeting (FUM) are all Christian. Both are very social-justice and peace oriented. Whether you will feel welcome as a progressive Christian depends on the individual Meeting/Church. A FGC Meeting (like mine!) will have silent contemplative worship, not a traditional church service.
13) Roman Catholics - The official church is not progressive but there are some bleeding heart parishes. Talk to the priest.
14) Unity churches - I know nothing about them but some progressive Christians like them.

Finally, look at the 1,000 churches listed in the back of Hal Taussig's book "A New Spiritual Home", and the churches associated with CrossWalk America or the Living the Questions curriculum.

Good luck! :-)

UCC -check 'em out. ( United Church of Christ--NOT Church of Christ) That the LDS faith is neither Republican or sexist is news to many, including me! Ditto JW's. To each his own.

Try a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. They follow Christ and the Bible more closely than any Christian Church I have ever
attended.

Obviously your in America, cos in Australia we don't have the hassle about republican and churches aren't hugely political.

No church is perfect because they are comprised of imperfect people working towards never sinning.

Pray and ask God to lead you to a place where HE wants you.
