Pulse in term of a wave form

It's a vague description but, in general, any waveform that has steep sides and makes a transition from one relatively constant level to another and back would be considered a 'pulse'.

A pulse is a square wave. It starts at one value, makes a quick transition to a second value and then returns back to the first value after usually a short amount of time.
