Baseball-karatedo isn't even the most popular martial art in Japan whereas the even the baseball off-season doesn't stop broadcasters from broadcasting crap like baseball player's weddings and "fishing with baseball players", etc. . Judo and kendo are both more popular than karatedo in Japan IMO. Japanese people tend to see karatedo as a relatively modern import from Ryukyu, so "pure Japanese" martial arts tend to more prestigious.

Baseball by far. My experience with Japanese people is that they respect karate as part of their heritage, but there's little actual interest in the sport.
